Numerical Meaning

One: Unity

  • Deuteronomy 6:4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.
  • Ephesians 4:5 "one Lord, one faith, one baptism."

Three: Divine Perfection

  • Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
  • Matthew 12:40 "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."
  • Three major feasts appear in Jewish Tradiction (Exod. 23:14-19)
    1. Feast of Unleavened Bread
    2. Feast of Harvest
    3. Feast of Ingathering
  • Prayer was urged three times daily (Dan. 6:10; Ps. 55:17)
  • The sanctuary was divided into three parts: vestibule, nave, and inner sanctuary (1 Kings 6:2-22)
  • Three-year-old animals were prized for special sacrifices (1 Sam. 1:24; Gen. 15:9)

Seven: Spiritual Perfection

  • Seven days in a week.
  • Seven of the 10 commandments begin with the word "not."
  • 7 seals, 7 trumpets, 7 parables in Matthew, and 7 promises to the churches.
  • There are 7 "eternals" in Hebrews which are:
    1. A priest for ever (1:6)
    2. Eternal salvation (1:9)
    3. Eternal judgment (6:2)
    4. Eternal redemption (9:12)
    5. Eternal spirit (9:14)
    6. Eternal inheritance (9:15)
    7. Everlasting covenant (13:20)
  • Jesus said 7 things on the cross:
    1. Luke 23:34 "Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots
    2. Luke 23:43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise"
    3. Matthew 27:46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" -- which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
    4. John 19:26 "When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son"
    5. John 19:28 "Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty."
    6. John 19:30 "When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit"
    7. Luke 23:46 "Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last."
