1. I would prefer to do a Wikipedia project, or possibly a Flickr project, once I learn more about how to use Flickr. 2. Some topics that interest me for the project are examining relationships between social networks, social mobility, and social conflict. 3. I have decent skills on editing pages and working with computer technology. I have done several projects for school using different technological resources and I believe I would be able to adequately contribute to editing a Wikipedia page or working on Flickr.

Project Proposal:

1. Objective I want to do a project on the Flickr website. I plan to take pictures illustrating the cultural change that I made from living at home with no siblings living at home with me, to college and living in a dorm with 3 other people. It is a big adjustment for anyone and I feel that this really illustrates individual growth and adapting to new surroundings and adapting new traditions and new lifestyles. 2. Interest This is interesting because everyone can relate to adapting to a new environment at college and adapting to new social environments. It demonstrates the sociological concepts of learning to be around different types of people and learning how to form relationships with people who have different types of personalities than mine. 3. Background reading I will read wikipedia, text book and other basic sociology texts on the following topics: Adapting to college life, social mobility, social conflict, with reference to living with many other people, and learning to accept other people’s views. 1. I will also find scholarly research on the general issue of (for example, violence in video games). Posting links here. 2. I will find popular press discussions of my topic. Perhaps Wikipedia articles, blog entries, newspaper and magazine stories, etc. 4. General Plan I plan to start taking pictures around campus of the different aspects of college life. I would like to show interactions between peers that might be different from interactions between peers in the high school years. I really want to show the major adjustment and variety of changes that come with the first year of college through my collection of photographs. I also would like to talk to my peers and get their opinions of their adjustment to college life so I have a better idea of what to focus on in the pictures. 5. Collaborators I plan to work alone on this project, but if anyone is interested in what I plan to do, feel free to join me!
