User:Peaceworld111/Ahmadiyya-related vandalism statistics

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi everyone. I will be taking some time out in the next few days to carry out some statistical work on Ahmadiyya-related vandalism here on the English Wikipedia. My initial interest is to see from which parts of the world do the users responsible for Ahmadiyya-related vandalism come from. I don't expect the results to be too long, nor very informative but it may take some time compiling them. This is only a trial so watch out, I might abandon it if I feel too worked out!

Purpose[edit]

  • Personal interest
  • Making use of Wikipedia to establish which parts of the world has high levels of antagonism towards Ahmadiyya (not Persecution). It may already seem obvious to some people who are acquainted with Ahmadiyya, but lets see what the results tell us!

Method[edit]

  • Vandalism by IP users will be considered only. (I'm not Checkuser!)
  • To make life easier, a sample will be taken and that sample will be vandalism intercepted by Peaceworld111. (me!)
  • Individual IPs will not be recorded but their country and month of edit will be recorded. (for now)
  • An IP making multiple edits on the same page on the same day will be counted once. However, edits made by the same IP over several different pages or on different days will be counted separately.

What constitutes as vandalism?[edit]

Wikipedia gives a good guidance to what constitutes vandalism. That's not the issue. The issue is what constitutes an Ahmadiyya-related vandalism? From a personal experience it can be hard to discern what constitutes vandalism targeted at a particular group/thing. That can itself lead to bias when compiling the results. For example if an IP user removes islamic in the context of the Ahmadiyya article introduction, does that constitute as Ahmadiyya related vandalism? In most cases it is an obvious yes because those editors either edit the same thing repetitively (edit warring!) or edit on other pages that are more obvious Ahmadiyya-related vandalism. In some cases, however, some editors become dormant and as humans we don't know if he/she either did it as part of his/her knowledge or antagonism. In most cases I would suspect the second option. I have no reason to support this other than offline experience. To make life easier I will include all such vandalism where it may be difficult to determine whether it's targeted or not.

Summary[edit]

Ok, so I've collected the results, now am going to summarize the results below by percentage each country that contributes towards Ahmadiyya-related vandalism. I collected the results for 13 months, no particular reason for doing so.

Country Sum %
Australia 5 1.9
Canada 20 7.7
India 13 5.0
Pakistan 56 21.6
Saudi Arabia 13 5.0
United Kingdom 70 27.0
United States 48 18.5
Rest of World 34 13.1

Why this may not be the true reflection[edit]

There are many reasons which I'll put up later. (If any other editors have any ideas feel free to write in bullet points here!)
