One of the core tenets of Telecommunications Policy in the United States is Broadband Internet Deployment to all Americans. The FCC states that all Americans should have access to affordable, robust, and reliable broadband internet capability.[1]

Broadband Definition[edit]

Broadband is used to describe a communication system capable of high speed transmission services such as data, voice, video over internet protocol, and all other binary signal data. There are many different physical means of achieving this such as: digital subscriber line service, fiber optic cable, coaxial cable, wireless radio, and broadband over power line.

Importance of Telecommunications[edit]

Broadband is an essential platform for all other business to take place. All types of industries need telephone and internet service to conduct their necessary activities. The ability to share large amounts of information facilitates productivity, facilitates commerce, and drives innovation.The internet has provided an excellent platform for political speech discourse to ensue.[2]
