Liu Sau Wah （廖秀華）, Sharon, Hong Kong Chinese （22 December 1955 - 19 August 1992）was a music educator and children‘ choir conductor.
Born in Hong Kong, she showed musical ability from her childhood and demonstrated her conpetence on keyboard and knowledge transfer. In 1974, Sharon was admitted to the music department, Chung Chi College, Chinese University of Hong Kong. Having graduated with a BA in Music in 1978, she first taught music in a secondary school in Tai Po, the New Territories before accepting an Assistant Music Officer offer in Government’s new Music Office in 1979. During her final years, she was committed to helping her students do better in music theory and in choir performances, and researching on her postgraduate degree in music with her alma mater and furthering her advanced Japanese studies. All these were unfinished at the time of her early death at the age of 36.
In May 1992, Sharon was diagnosed with terminal stage stomach cancer. A surgical operation that followed only added pain and suffering and did not prolong her life. She was survived by his husband Peter and one son Plato.
Liu Sau Wah, Sharon was born on 22 December, 1955 to Liu Wai Ming （廖偉明）and Cheung Yuk Ching （張玉清) in Hong Kong. She was the elder one of the two children. She began keyboard lessons before her teens and spent much time practising the piano.
Sharon met her teaching colleague and future husband Cheung Kam Fai,（張錦輝）Peter in 1974. They began dating in the summer of 1974. In Autumn 1974, Sharon was admitted to read music as an undergraduate at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. During the course of her studies, she also picked up playing the flute and took a great interest in Chinese music history. Having completed all the degree requirements, Sharon and a few of her classmates had an extended European tour. After graduating with a BA in Music （Hons） in 1978 and teaching music in a secondary school for a year, Sharon joined the Music Office. On 5 October 1979, the Mid-autumn Festival day that year, Sharon and Peter got married at the Tai Po Marriage Registry. In addition to close family members, a few Music Office friends came to double their joy. Instead of having a wedding banquet, they had a barbecue at home. Everything was made simple.
Apart from work dedication and academic pursuits, Sharon and Peter enjoyed lives. They loved cars. Initially got second-handed ones of Ford Capri (1976) and Ford Cortina (1978), they began to own brand new cars: Dahatsu Charade (1979), Toyota Corolla SR (1980), Honda Prelude (1980), Nissan SX200 (1989) and Mitsubishi Space Wagon (1990). They travelled to places: the Phillipines （1980）, Japan （1982）, Taiwan （1983）, Guilin （1985）, Britain（1986）, Europe and Bejing（1987）, US, Vancouver and Bali （1989）and England （1991）. They owned home premises: at Fairview Park (1983), at Kornhill (1985) and at Laguna City (1991).
In summer 1992, when Sharon and Peter looked back to their their years together, they concluded they were great partners as they had been supporting each other in every way. Sharon’s only regret was that she could not live longer to see her son, Plato(張哲）, (born on 30 December, 1989) growing up. She was however sure that Peter would be a good father. In her final days, Peter was by her deathbed all the time. Sharon took her last breath sometime after 20:15 on 19 August 1992 and dropped a tear in the end. Peter could only respond with a loving and lasting kiss. ”Always In My Heart!” was Peter’s message to Sharon during her funeral. Sharon was cremated and her ashes in an urn has been placed at the Fairview Park home, while Peter has been carrying Sharon’s identity card close to his heart ever since. When he found that he lost his wallet in November 2019, his only regret was that he lost Sharon’s identity card. Later, When he told his doctor about he had become dis-oriented that he would lost his wallet for the first time, his doctor was shocked: “Oh...your wife’s identity card...”
