As director of the highly acclaimed New Jersey Percussion Ensemble Peter Jarvis is active as a percussionist, conductor and administrator. Over the years, he has played with many of the new music ensembles in New York and New Jersey including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Group for Contemporary Music and the DoubleStop percussion duo. In addition he has played with the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble of Piccolo Spoleto, the Hong Kong based Kung Ensemble and several distinguished orchestras and choruses among others. Jarvis has appeared as a soloist for numerous New Music Festivals including the Europe/Asia Festival in Kazan Russia, The Hong Kong Arts Festival and for ISCM League of Composers in New York. He has performed for Radio Denmark, PBS, Russian and Hong Kong television and WNYC in New York. He has premiered any number of pieces including music of Milton Babbitt and Charles Wuorinen. As conductor, Jarvis has appeared on the San Francisco Symphony’s New and Unusual Music Series, with Saint Luke's Chamber Ensemble, Cygnus Festival Orchestra, Ensemble21, the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble of Piccolo Spoleto, Composers Guild of New Jersey Performance Ensemble, New Jersey New Music Ensemble, and several others. He has appeared in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Asia, Russia and Europe. He can be heard on Nonesuch, CRI, Koch International, Composers Guild of New Jersey, October Music (for ECM), Capstone, NAXOS, and Gram recording labels among others. A member of BMI, his compositions are published by Calabrese Brothers Music, LLC. In addition to performing, Jarvis has been active as a teacher, having taught percussion and chamber music at Fairleigh Dickinson University and currently at William Paterson University, Connecticut College and Bergen Community College. www.njpe.org
