= The Rugby game we made way too difficult on ourselves =

About 6 years ago, I was participating in a provincial rugby tournament, and made it to the final day; the top 8 remaining teams were: Aurora, Ajax, Waterdown, Windsor, Oshawa, Oakville, Mississauga, and us, the Burlington Centaurs.

Our first game was against Windsor, beating them fairly easily, 31-12.

Second game was against Mississauga, beating them, but slightly closer at 28-14

In the finals, we are playing against our long time rivals, the Oakville Crusaders. The game starts off well, being 14-12 in our favour at the half. However, at halftime, one of our teammates, Cole, starts to have a mental breakdown because he has never scored a try throughout the entire season. Which brings the team's morale down drastically.

With only a few minutes remaining, the score is 24-21 for the Cru, but we have possession, getting the ball back near our end zone. We start to make our advance. After a few minutes of minor gains, a teammate, Thomas, finds an opening and gets a breakaway. He's really fast and would've scored, winning us the tournament, but we all started to yell from behind him to get the ball to Cole. Hearing this, he starts to slow down, and in one of the most impressive feats of movement I have seen, giving me flashbacks to Anderson Silva[1], evades every attempt at a tackle thrown at him until we get close enough for him to offload the ball to someone. By this time, we're in the end zone but have not put the ball on the ground to complete the try, meaning we were playing the highest stakes game of hot potato we have ever played, knowing if the ball gets intercepted, the tournament we had worked so hard for was going to be over. But eventually, we get the ball to Cole, who was able to get the ball to the ground, scoring the game winning try of the tournament, and the season, as we all erupted in to cheering and excitement.
