ततो युद्धपरिश्रान्तं समरे चिन्तया स्थितम्। रावणं चाग्रतो दृष्ट्वा युद्धाय समुपस्थितम्॥ १॥

Shri Ram, exhausted in war is thinking, absorbed in deep introspection. He is about to face Ravana in a fresh battle.

दैवतैश्च समागम्य द्रष्टुमभ्यागतो रणम्। उपागम्याब्रवीद्राममगस्त्यो भगवान् ऋषिः॥ २॥

Daivataishch samaagamyum drashtumabhyaagato ranam. Upaagamyaabraveedraamamagastyo bhagavanh rishi. 2.

Gods have come together to witness this great battle. The "all knowing" sage Agastya accompanying them thus spoke to Ram.

He represents the complete sumtotal of souls of all demigods and beings. He is self-illuminated and sustains the world with his own light. He is the nurturer and energy provider for both the race of Devas and Asuras together with entire world.

एष ब्रह्मा च विष्णुश्च शिवः स्कन्दः प्रजापतिः। महेन्द्रो धनदः कालो यमः सोमो ह्यपां पतिः॥ ८॥

He is Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, Lord Skanda and all the Prajapatis. He is also Mahendra ( Indra ), Kubera, Yama, Kala, Soma ( Moon ) and Varuna ( Water ).

पितरो वसवः साध्या ह्यश्विनौ मरुतो मनुः। वायुर्वह्निः प्रजाप्राण ऋतुकर्ता प्रभाकरः॥ ९॥

He is manu, maruts, ashwini, sadhyas, vasus and pitrs (elders). He is also vayu (air), agni(fire), prana(life energy), creator of the six seasons and originating source of all illumination and energy.

आदित्यः सविता सूर्यः खगः पूषा गभस्तिमान्। सुवर्णसदृशो भानुर्हिरण्यरेता दिवाकरः॥ १०॥

He is the son of Aditi (mother of demigods), eldest among Adityas, originator and maintainer of the universe, galvaniser of action and traverses in heavens. He is the illumination in every direction, the golden hued brilliance, and is maker of the day.

हरिदश्वः सहस्रार्चिः सप्तसप्तिर्मरीचिमान्। तिमिरोन्मथनः शम्भुस्त्वष्टा मार्ताण्ड अंशुमान्॥ ११॥

He is the all pervasive one with a seven horse chariot, he is ubiquitous with his countless rays. He is the source of power behind the seven sense organs, he dissipates darkness, bestows happiness, blesses prosperity, removes affliction and sufferings, imparts life in every organism.

हिरण्यगर्भः शिशिरस्तपनो भास्करो रविः। अग्निगर्भोऽदितेः पुत्रः शङ्खः शिशिरनाशनः॥ १२॥

He is the golden womb soul of universe ( Hiranyagarbha ), He cools and heats the world, leads the day with glittering light and energy. He is the fire-wombed, son of Aditi. He blows his conch to remove intellectual dull-headedness and cold weather.

He is the Lord of firmament, ruler of the sky and remover of darkness. Primary teacher of all vedas, He is a friend of water and causes rain. Swiftly crossing across the vindya range he flourishes in the Brahma Nadi.

आतपी मण्डली मृत्युः पिङ्गलः सर्वतापनः। कविर्विश्वो महातेजाः रक्तः सर्वभवोद्भवः॥ १४॥

He, who has a spherical form of reddish-yellow color, causes supreme heat and is the cause of life and death. He is wise and is the world himself. He is responsible for the origination of all creatures, sustaining the universe and every action in it through his intense heat and energy.

नक्षत्रग्रहताराणामधिपो विश्वभावनः। तेजसामपि तेजस्वी द्वादशात्मन् नमोऽस्तु ते॥ १५॥

He is the lord of all the stars, planets and constellations. He is the origin of everything in the universe and is the cause of lustre of even the most brilliant ones. Salutations to The One Entity who manifests himself in the twelve forms of the Sun.

नमः पूर्वाय गिरये पश्चिमायाद्रये नमः। ज्योतिर्गणानां पतये दिनाधिपतये नमः॥ १६॥

Salutations to the Eastern and Western mountains, Salutations to the lord of sunrise and sunset, Salutations to the Lord of heavenly bodies and The Day.

जयाय जयभद्राय हर्यश्वाय नमो नमः। नमो नमः सहस्रांशो आदित्याय नमो नमः॥ १७॥

jayAya jayaBadrAya haryaSvAya namo namaH. namo namaH sahasrAMSo AdityAya namo namaH.. 17.

Salutations to the one who is the embodiment of victory, bestows victory and the prosperity that follows. Salutations to the one who has horses with brownish color. Salutations to the one Lord of thousands of rays and to the Son of Aditi.

नम उग्राय वीराय सारङ्गाय नमो नमः। नमः पद्मप्रबोधाय मार्ताण्डाय नमो नमः॥ १८॥

Salutations to the brave and fierce hero, the one that travels fast. Salutations to him whose appearance makes lotuses blossom and to Martandya, ( the son of Mrukunda Maharishi ), the one who was born of a sleeping egg.

ब्रह्मेशानाच्युतेशाय सूर्यायादित्यवर्चसे। भास्वते सर्वभक्षाय रौद्राय वपुषे नमः॥ १९॥

Salutations to the Lord of Brahma, Shiva and Achuyta, Salutations to the powerful Sun, Salutations to the effulgence in the Sun that both illuminates and annihilates all and is of form fierce like Rudra.

तमोघ्नाय हिमघ्नाय शत्रुघ्नायामितात्मने। कृतघ्नघ्नाय देवाय ज्योतिषां पतये नमः॥ २०॥

Salutations to the one lord that removes darkness, fog and cold, melts snow, erases fear and destroys all enemies. Salutations to the one that annihilates the ungrateful and to the Lord of all heavenly cosmic bodies and stars, he is the first light among all the lights of the universe.

तप्तचामीकराभाय वह्नये विश्वकर्मणे। नमस्तमोऽभिनिघ्नाय रुचये लोकसाक्षिणे॥ २१॥

Salutations to the Lord, the architect of universe, who shines like molten gold destroying darkness. The one who is transcendental fire of supreme divine knowledge, who destroys darkness and ignorance and who is the one effulgence that is cosmic witness to everything in universe.

नाशयत्येष वै भूतं तदेव सृजति प्रभुः। पायत्येष तपत्येष वर्षत्येष गभस्तिभिः॥ २२॥

nASayatyeza vE BUtaM tadeva sfjati praBuH. pAyatyeza tapatyeza varzatyeza gaBastiBiH.. 22..

Salutations to the Lord who decimates everything in this universe and creates it again. Salutation to the one who by his powerful heat & rays consumes the water, heats it up and sends it down as rainfall again.

एष सुप्तेषु जागर्ति भूतेषु परिनिष्ठितः। एष एवाग्निहोत्रं च फलं चैवाग्निहोत्रिणाम्॥ २३॥

eza suptezu jAgarti BUtezu parinizWitaH. eza evAgnihotraM ca PalaM cEvAgnihotriRAm.. 23..

Salutations to the lord who dwells in the heart of all beings, keeping awake while they are sleeping. He is both the agnihotra sacrifice, the sacrificial fire and the outcome obtained from the agnihotra sacrifice by the worshippers.

वेदाश्च क्रतवश्चैव क्रतूनां फलमेव च। यानि कृत्यानि लोकेषु सर्व एष रविः प्रभुः॥ २४॥

vedASca kratavaScEva kratUnAM Palameva ca. yAni kftyAni lokezu sarva eza raviH praBuH.. 24.

He is the origin and protector of the four vedas, sacrifices discussed in vedas and the fruits obtained by performing these sacrifices. Sun is verily the Lord of all actions happening in this universe and origin of each and all.

एनमापत्सु कृच्छ्रेषु कान्तारेषु भयेषु च। कीर्तयन् पुरुषः कश्चिन्नावसीदति राघव॥ २५॥

Raghava, one who recites this hymn in times of adversity or crisis, during calamity or lost in the wilderness, and having fear, he will not lose heart and becomes courageous.

पूजयस्वैनमेकाग्रो देवदेवं जगत्पतिम्। एतत् त्रिगुणितं जप्त्वा युद्धेषु विजयिष्यसि॥ २६॥

pUjayasvEnamekAgro devadevaM jagatpatim. etat triguRitaM japtvA yudDezu vijayizyasi.. 26..

Raghava, worship the Lord of entire universe and demigods with pointed devotion. Recite this hymn thrice and you will gain victory.

अस्मिन् क्षणे महाबाहो रावणं त्वं वधिष्यसि। एवमुक्त्वा तदागस्त्यो जगाम च यथागतम्॥ २७॥

asmin kzaRe mahAbAho rAvaRaM tvaM vaDizyasi. evamuktvA tadAgastyo jagAma ca yaTAgatam.. 27..

O mighty strong armed one, by doing this you shall conquer and slay Ravana this very moment. Having spoken this, Muni Agastya returned to his original place.

एतच्छ्रुत्वा महातेजा नष्टशोकोऽभवत्तदा। धारयामास सुप्रीतो राघवः प्रयतात्मवान्॥ २८॥

etacCrutvA mahAtejA nazwaSoko'BavattadA. DArayAmAsa suprIto rAGavaH prayatAtmavAn.. 28..

Raghava became free from anguish after listening to this hymn. He became calm, pleased, energetic and full of courage.

आदित्यं प्रेक्ष्य जप्त्वा तु परं हर्षमवाप्तवान्। त्रिराचम्य शुचिर्भूत्वा धनुरादाय वीर्यवान्॥ २९॥

Gazing at the Sun with complete devotion, He recited this hymn three times and experienced supreme bliss. Purifying himself by sipping water thrice, he picked up his bow with his mighty arms.

रावणं प्रेक्ष्य हृष्टात्मा युद्धाय समुपागमत्। सर्वयत्नेन महता वधे तस्य धृतोऽभवत्॥ ३०॥

Seeing Ravana coming to battle, He focused all his effort with determination to destroy Ravana.

अथ रविरवदन्निरीक्ष्य रामं मुदितमनाः परमं प्रहृष्यमाणः। निशिचरपतिसंक्षयं विदित्वा सुरगणमध्यगतो वचस्त्वरेति॥ ३१॥

aTa raviravadannirIkzya rAmaM muditamanAH paramaM prahfzyamARaH. niSicarapatisaMkzayaM viditvA suragaRamaDyagato vacastvareti.. 31..

Then knowing that destruction of Ravana was near, The Sun-God Aditya ( Sun ) who was at the center of assembly of the demigods, looked at Sri Rama and exclaimed "Hurry up" with great delight.
