Bio
[edit]I'm a high school student, taking English 101 at Everett Community College. I enjoy the subjects English and History. After college, I aspire to be a firefighter or teacher. Hobbies of mine include volleyball, painting, and photography. I play on the varsity volleyball team at Lake Stevens High School, as well as playing beach volleyball during the summer. Although I'm not very artistic, I enjoy painting and taking photos during my spare time. Traveling and spending time with my friends and family are both very important to me.
This being my first time exploring Wikipedia, I see myself being most interested in creating and editing articles relating to volleyball. I have both the most appeal and knowledge for volleyball and the rotations and defensive system. Apart from that, I am compelled to research historical articles on such topics like WWI. I would additionally have fun fact-checking historical articles and editing them with correct information.
Article evaluation
[edit]While searching for a Wikipedia site to evaluate, I stumbled across an article for my own school, Lake Stevens High. Although school is not always my favorite place to be, I do have school spirit and I want my school to be well-represented in this article. With this in mind, I visited the Lake Stevens High School page on Wikipedia and found three things worth commenting on: it’s lack of citations, issues with grammar, and irrelevant information and sections.
Citations
[edit]The first thing that I noticed on the Lake Stevens High School Wikipedia site was the lack of citations added throughout the article. Many facts were stated mentioning the history and other general information about the school. Although 7 references were listed, I still consider this a lack of citations for the amount of information contained in this article. In addition, the citations listed at the end of the article were not placed next to the facts. This made it impossible to tell what information these references were being cited for.
Grammar
[edit]This article, although having pertinent information, had several grammatical errors and excessive informal language. There were many misspelled words and errors in punctuation which in my opinion made this article seem unreliable. To strengthen this Wiki site, the page needs to be revised with corrections of not only these errors but an inclusion of more formal language.
Not Enough Information
[edit]This article had some amazing information on the history of Lake Stevens High School along with school sports and club accomplishments. However, some topics in the article seemed irrelevant, and others were not well-represented. While I felt it was important to mention some history of the school’s early days, the information provided was not always related specifically to the high school. In addition, although sports and clubs are very important at Lake Stevens High and were cited in this article, academics was barely touched upon.
Summary
[edit]Overall, the article provides some good information on Lake Stevens High School but it would be a much better source if there wasn’t a lack of citations, issues with grammar, and irrelevant information. A correction of these issues would help the article’s reliability and would create a great resource for people researching this particular school.
