Advanced Bionics was founded in Valencia, California in 1993 and as of 2009 has been part of Sonova Group.[2] Advanced Bionics is currently the world's second leading producer of cochlear implant systems in sales, behind Cochlear Limited and ahead of MED-EL.[3][4][5] In 2009 Sonova Group bought Advanced Bionics for 489 million USD.[6]

Corporate Affairs[edit]

Advanced Bionics was originally an American company, headquartered in Valencia, California until it was acquired by Sonova in 2009. Since the acquisition the company has been working with with Phonak, another Sonova company, to develop hearing technology, and now their current headquarters is in Stäfa, Switzerland.[7][8] Advanced Bionics primarily competes with MED-EL and Cochlear limited in the cochlear implant market, with it's competitors holding 70% of the market.[9]

Products[edit]

Advanced Bionics produces cochlear implant systems for people with severe to profound hearing loss. Currently in production are both Naída and Neptune series speech processors.[10]

Recalls[edit]

In 2010, Advanced Bionics voluntarily a batch of its HiRes 90K implants after two patients experienced painful malfunctions.[11] After a jury awarded a plaintiff who suffered severe electric shocks 7.25 million USD,[12] Advanced Bionics announced they would appeal.[13]
