User:Plantdrew/Plant automatic taxobox progress

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Numbers are from a Petscan search for articles in a certain category (search depth=6) with {{Taxobox}}; category name noted if it isn't the scientific name. Example search for Asteraceae.

checkmark Semi-done notes categories with a small number (typically <15) of remaining manual taxoboxes, and where I've examined every taxobox article and decided not to convert it to an automatic taxobox at present. I leave manual taxoboxes in place when I notice some issue with the taxonomy (most frequently, the issue involves synonymy). At this point, checkmark Semi-done vs. ☒N doesn't mean much; I've examined every article with a manual taxoboxes in many families with substantially more than 15 remaining manual taxoboxes.

I update numbers from time to time. I'm not currently running updates for categories marked  Done, although it is possible that new articles with a manual taxobox could be created.

266 total remaining manual taxoboxes (talk pages tagged with WikiProject Plants)

Angiosperm families/non-angiosperm groups with 10 or more manual taxoboxes

[edit]
  1. Asteraceae 62 (haven't worked on new subfamilies Vernonioideae, Dicomoideae or Tarchonanthoideae. Haven't done Carduoideae)
  2. Prehistoric plants 61 (exclude Category:Fossil resins) (some overlap with other groups in my notes, but many incertae sedis at family or above or in entirely extinct higher groups)
  3. Poaceae 54 (exclude Category:Monocot diseases and Category:Insect pests of millets) (Needs straightening out. Some manual taxoboxes correspond to disagreements between Soreng et al. (source of the infrafamilial classification)/POWO/other databases over genus recognition, but many cases of accepted genera with species lists including range which makes merging synonymous genera and updating lists difficult)
  4. Rutaceae 23 (exclude Category:Citrus diseases) (23 Citrus hybrids, 1 unplaced (Oxanthera brevipes)
  5. Gymnosperms 21 (Juniperus, Abies, Pinus and Podocarpus done. Infrageneric classification not consistently done or necessarily up to date; Juniperus in particular has unsourced lists of species by section [Peter coxhead]. Quite a few fossils.)
  6. Orchidaceae 16 (Category:Orchids) (14 nothogenera (all involving a genus treated as a synonym); 1 unplaced species (Holopogon pekinensis) and 1 disease (Botryodiplodia oncidii); Orchidinae needs article)
  7. Ferns 15 (13 fossils and Diblemma (plant) and Eusporangiate fern)

Totals: all families >9=191) (excluding prehistoric plant category from these sums; Category:Plant pathogens and diseases (depth 7) has 3 manual taxoboxes in articles tagged for WP:PLANTS)

  • Bryophytes 2 remaining (1 fossil (Hexagonocaulon), and Isobryales with some complications about what families go where)
  • Lycophytes 1 remaining (orphaned fossil)
  • Ferns 15 remaining (13 fossils and Diblemma (plant) and Eusporangiate fern)
  • Gymnosperms 21 (Juniperus, Abies, Pinus and Podocarpus done. Infrageneric classification not consistently done or necessarily up to date; Juniperus in particular has unsourced lists of species by section [Peter coxhead]. Quite a few fossils.)
  • Prehistoric plants 61 (some overlap with other groups in my notes, but many incertae sedis at family or above or in entirely extinct higher groups)

Genera with infrageneric classification (generally incomplete and unreferenced)

[edit]

Note:  Done here means no manual taxoboxes remain, not necessarily that infrageneric classification has been implemented in all species articles

Infrafamily classification not done

[edit]
  • Annonaceae (infrafamilial added since I worked through the family)
  • Brassicaceae (last I looked, latest classification basically said it tentative, but see https://brassibase.cos.uni-heidelberg.de)
  • Caryophyllaceae (not all genera accounted for in latest classification?)
  • Passifloraceae (added since I worked through)

Numerous genus articles created by Estopedist1 in early 2021 don't have infrafamily classification

Orphaned

These use automatic taxoboxes, but need updating

  • Gaura; has species with Gaura titles, species list for Oenothera needs update
