Dr. PRABHA MALLIKARJUN is an educationist and philanthropist based in Davangere. Born into an agricultural Gaudru family in Kakkargolla village, Davangere taluk, to Mrs. Girijamma and the late KG Parameshwarappa.

She serves as a Life Trustee of SS Care Trust, a Governing Council Member[1] of Bapuji Education Association, and a Director of ICPL and Sam Argo Ltd. She is married to the Honorable Minister Shri SS Mallikarjun, an Indian National Congress politician from Karnataka, currently holding positions as Minister of Mines & Geology[2] and Horticulture in the Government of Karnataka.

Dr. Prabha Mallikarjun gained prominence for securing a Loksabha ticket[3] to contest the 2024 Member of Parliament elections, representing Davangere district.

Early Life and Background[edit]

Dr. Prabha Mallikarjun (born March 15th, 1976) hails from an agricultural Gaudru family in Kakkargolla village, Davangere taluk, born to Mrs. Girijamma and the late KG Parameshwarappa. She completed her primary and secondary education at PolyFiber CBSE School, Kumara Pattanam, Harihara.

During her formative years, Dr. Prabha Mallikarjun was known as an all-rounder student, particularly excelling in Drama and debates, earning numerous awards. She actively participated in the National Service Scheme (NSS) until 1990.

Residing in the PolyFibers colony during her schooling, she was exposed to India's diverse cultures, which she fondly describes as 'mini India', thereby becoming fluent in languages such as Tamil and Malayalam. She continues to embrace multicultural food habits.

Dr. Prabha Mallikarjun obtained her dental degree from Bapuji Dental College & Hospital, Davangere, in 1998, with a keen interest in Community Dentistry.

Career[edit]

Dr. Prabha Mallikarjun is a registered Dental Health Practitioner, having graduated from Babuji Dental College in 1998. Following her marriage to the Honorable Minister Shri SS Mallikarjun on February 1st, 1998, she has diligently fulfilled her role as a steadfast supporter in her family's social, business, and political endeavors.

Additionally, Dr. Prabha Mallikarjun has actively served as a Board member of the prestigious Bapuji Educational Association, where she initiated the women's wing and played a pivotal role in addressing day-to-day issues. In 2023, she played a significant part in the introduction of Bapuji Health cards[4], providing subsidized healthcare for Below Poverty Line (BPL) citizens at any Bapuji Hospitals.

Furthermore, Dr. Prabha Mallikarjun serves as a director of ICPL and Sam Argo Ltd., both of which have achieved the highest sugar cane crushing records in India for consecutive years.

Dr. Prabha is also a Life Trustee of SS Care Trust and contested for Member of Parliament[5] in the Davangere district for the Indian National Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Personal Life[edit]

Dr. Prabha Mallikarjun married the Honorable Minister Shri SS Mallikarjun on February 1st, 1998. She is the mother of three children: Samarth, Shrestha, and Shiva.

Furthermore, she is the daughter-in-law of the industrialist and educationist, Shri Dr. Shamanur Shivashankarappa Ji, who is a politician from the state of Karnataka and a Member of the Legislative Assembly representing the Davanagere South Assembly Constituency. He holds the distinction of being the oldest serving member[6] of the State Legislative Assembly in India.

Dr. Prabha Mallikarjun has made significant contributions to healthcare and education for the economically disadvantaged population in Davangere district. She has particularly focused on women's health, facilitating over 385 free deliveries and newborn care, providing free cataract treatment for 434 individuals, and offering 16,437 free dialysis treatments to 2,817 patients in need. Additionally, she has organized free breast cancer screenings for 1,038 women through SS Care Trust health camps and cervical cancer screenings for 887 women.

SS CARE TRUST[edit]

Dr. Prabha Mallikarjun serves as a Life Trustee of SS Care Trust. Her work in the healthcare sector, until 2017, included organizing 30 general camps in the surrounding villages of Davangere, benefiting approximately 24,000 patients. This initiative laid the groundwork for the establishment of SS Care Trust.

Formed in August 2019, SS Care Trust draws inspiration from the values of its Chief Architect and Patron, Dr. Shamanur Shivashankarappaji. Based in Davangere, Central Karnataka, the Trust's initiatives extend across the state, focusing on healthcare and ensuring equal access to quality services.

The Trust envisions the realization of health empowerment through knowledge and care, aiming to have a positive multiplier effect on the physical, social, and cultural aspects of underprivileged and economically backward communities, fostering lasting equitable changes. Notably, the Trust has adopted two model villages, Kakkaragolla and Arsapura, in the Davangere district and has conducted health camps in surrounding areas.

SS Care Trust conducts health awareness programs through women's Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Mahila Sanghas, covering topics such as maternal health, family planning, nutrition, hygiene, and preventive healthcare measures. Additionally, the Trust conducts Adolescent Health education on Menstrual Hygiene, Routine health check-ups with a focus on PCOS, and lifestyle modification.

Moreover, SS Care Trust organizes Non-Communicable Disease Awareness & Screening programs, School Oral Health Programs, Adolescent Skill Empowerment workshops, Awareness campaigns on blood donation & anemia prevention, and Life Skill Workshops for children with HIV/AIDS.

The Trust also prioritizes screening and management programs for anemia and malnutrition among children, breast cancer awareness, and screening, as well as support for pregnant women, including ante-natal checkups, ultrasound screenings, and neonatal care for those belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.

In 2022, SS Care Trust initiated cervical cancer screening at the SS General Hospital, KR Road, utilizing advanced technology for early detection. The Trust's initiatives also include a Haemodialysis Program, ensuring equitable access to life-sustaining medical treatment, and Health on Wheels Mobile Health Camps, providing free screenings for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) like diabetes and hypertension.

Furthermore, SS Care Trust, under the leadership of its Founder Chairman, Dr. Shamanur Shivashankarappa, spearheaded a Mass Free COVID-19 Vaccination Drive, administering free COVID-19 vaccines to eligible individuals within their wards, with a significant impact on the community.
