Ghana Was the First Sub-Saharan Country in Africa to Gain Independence. One of our interesting facts about Ghana is that in 1957, the country became the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to gain total independence. Ghana was formed by a merger of the former British Gold Coast territory and the Togoland trust. In Ghana there are many Christians and Muslims in the country. However, Ghanaians and especially youngsters generanation are taught the importance of freedom of worship, meaning that tolerance and fairness amongst the population are indoctrinated. The people of Ghana believe that you should be able to choose to worship whichever religion you like and there should be no intolerance to anyone from faiths other than your own. That's amazing isn't it? Sometimes you may hear people refer to Ghana as "Cedi" the meaning of this word is actually a type of shell. Cedi is the main currency in the country, and is divided in to smaller united called pesetas. For example a 100 pesetas make one Cedi. Cedi came from a African word for cowry shell. A cowry shell is a small snail that is found in the sea. Amazing how they used a natural resources as there money, who would of thought? Ghana is rich with a lot of natural resources, but cocoa bean is there largest export product. In fact, Ghana is the second only Ivory Coast in terms of its ability to grow and export cocoa beans for consumption for all over the world. We can forget about the gold, Ghana is the 7th largest producer of gold in the world. In 2012 alone it produced 102 tons of precious metal. They even have the 9th largest diamond reserve in the world. These are some interesting facts before to take sail to one of the beautiful attractions Ghana.[1][2]
