Performance Delivery Service Ganda (Korean공연 배달 서비스 간다; RRGongyeon Baedal Service Kanda) hereinafter Ganda (Korean간다; Hanja簡多; RRKanda; lit. simple and diverse) is a regional theater company located in South Korea. It not only means 'going' when called, but also has the ambiguous meaning of performing a simple and diverse performance that can easily go anywhere. The CEO, director, and actor Min Jun-ho has created and led this theater company, starting with the unique play 'The Mirror Princess Pyeonggang Story', which was created using the actors' body language and a cappella music during the Hanyejong era.[1]

'Ganda' is a combination of 'gan' (簡), which is brief, and 'many', which is diverse, and was named with the intention of performing a simple performance at any time rather than creating a grandiose performance. “We started with the intention of creating a brief but diverse performance. I insisted on performing a performance that could only be performed on stage. “I wanted to do ‘ganda-like’ works that convey the energy of youth.” [2]

History[edit]

  • The Mirror Princess Pyeonggang Story. This work was originally created for school use with support of 1 million won from K-Arts in February of 2004.[3] Although it was made in 2004 with only 1 million won, it received 350 million won in investment from CJ Entertainment based on positive reviews from the audience.[4] This work was originally created for school use with support of 1 million won from K-Arts in February of 2004. Afterwards, he went to local cultural centers and local festivals, but was noticed by a performance planner and 'entered' Daehakro. In this work, which has no particular plot, eight actors move constantly on stage for one hour and 25 minutes without leaving the stage once. The characteristic feature is that the actor solves all problems with sound, including sound and sound effects.[5] The shows featured a group of eight actors who remained on stage for the entire duration of 1 hour and 25 minutes, constantly moving without leaving. The actors created all the sound effects and audio elements themselves, using only their voices. This a cappella musical received 1 million KRW in support from Korea National University of Arts.[5]
  • In September 2004, when Min Jun-ho registered Theater Ganda (극단 간다) as an official theater company, called "Pitdeongi" (Korean핏덩이; RRPitdeongi; lit. Blood lump), with the average age of the members being 25 years old.[3] In September 2004, young people in their 20s came together under the goal of ‘pursuing simple, good, and diverse performances’. ‘theater troupe established of graduates of the Korea National University of Arts (Yejong), including Lee Jun-ho, Lee Jae-jun, Jin Seon-gyu, and Kim Ji-hyun. Although they were founded less than four years ago, they are creating a new wind in the performing arts world and attracting enthusiastic fans.[4]
  • Founded by 9 people. five friends from K-Arts (drinking buddies). Oh Dae-seok, Min Jun-ho, Jin Seon-kyu, Sung, Lee Jun-ho.[3] Three first founding member, Kim Ji-hyun, Jin Seon-kyu, Park Bo-kyung, Lee Jun-ho, Lee Jae-jun, Jin Seon-gyu, and Kim Ji-hyun.[4] Later member Yang Kyung-won and Oh Eui-shik.[6]The second batch of members included actors Kim Min-jae, Lee Hee-joon, Jeong Seon-ah, Park Min-jung, Jeong Yeon, Woo Ji-soon, and director Lee Jae-jun.[7]
  • However, their first work, the 'A Cappella Musical - The Story of Princess Pyeonggang', was a success last year at Daehangno in Seoul. This work will be performed again as an encore at the small theater 'Festival' in Daehangno, Seoul, starting on the 25th (1588-7890). I visited 'Ganda', who is currently rehearsing in the basement of a detached house in Jeongneung-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul
  • “The Story of Winter Princess Pyeonggang,” which will be performed by invitation at the Muju Arts and Culture Center on the 8th at 7:30 p.m., was produced by Jun-ho Min, CEO of the performance delivery service “Ganda,” sponsored by the Korea A Cappella Association, and presented by the Theater Company of the Korea National University of Arts. This is a work supported by Dolgot and is the official opening work of the 2004 A Cappella Festival, decorated with fresh and new ideas, and has received many favorable reviews from audiences at local festivals and arts centers across the country.[8][9]
  • “Our troupe has been greatly influenced by Chai Mu (a troupe led by director Yi Sang-woo, which has produced many famous movie stars), so we want to do what our seniors have done. We support each other and provide stimulation. We are still acting to the point where we are sick of it. "We have a lot of greed for it. Even though we're older, we still have so much passion that we want to do that. It's a great strength. We respect each other, so there's a lot of synergy."[6]
  • In February 2003, student graduation workshop at Korea National University of Arts, Oh! What do ‘While You Were Sleeping.[10]
  • 2004, student graduation workshop at Korea National University of Arts. The first musical was Finding Mr. Destiny written by Jang Yoo-jung [ko] (class of 2000) and composed by Kim Hye-seong the production costs for "Finding Kim Jong-wook" were 100,000 KRW.[11] The Story of the Mirror Princess Pyeonggang' was 1 million won.[11]The first musical was Finding Mr. Destiny written by Jang Yoo-jung [ko].[12] The second musical was "The Story of Mirror Princess Pyeonggang," a production by Min Jun-ho (class of 1999). In order to secure this support, Min Jun-ho established Theater Ganda, a theater study group, and Kim joined the group.[12]
  • 'Mirror Princess...' is the first work of 'Performance Delivery Service - Ganda', a theater company created by graduates of King Yejong's Theater Academy, Dance Academy, and Conservatory of Music. ' swept the grand prize, directing award, and female acting award at this year's Miryang Theater Festival and received rave reviews as "a work that changed the paradigm of existing performances" (director Lee Yun-taek). ‘Mirror Princess… ', thanks to this popularity, will begin an indefinite long-term performance in Daehakro starting next year (2006).[10]
  • The most notable move was the long-term rental of two small theaters in Daehakro. CJ Entertainment plans to rent the 280-seat and 220-seat theaters in the recently completed Daehakro Arts Plaza building for two years, respectively, and hold long-term performances and showcases. First, from April 7 to May 21, Ganda, a performance delivery service, will co-produce ‘The Story of Mirror Princess Pyeonggang’. ‘The Story of Mirror Princess Pyeonggang’ received favorable reviews from critics last year and was invited to various performing arts festivals in Korea. The ‘Our Musical Power’ special performance, which opened last February, recorded an audience occupancy rate of 106%. The new version of 'The Mirror Princess Pyeonggang Story', co-produced with CJ Entertainment, strengthened the actors' capabilities by reinforcing the stage and costumes and involving a vocal coach.[13]
  • In the following year, Kim had the opportunity to reprise her role as the female protagonist in the graduation performance of the musical "Finding Kim Jong-wook" at Han Ye-jong's Black Box Theater. Directed by writer Jang Yu-jeong, Kim shared the stage with Jeon Byeong-wook, who portrayed Kim Jong-wook, and Min Jun-ho, who played Multiman. They even created a captivating poster and displayed it all over the campus. Their outstanding performance caught the attention of their professors, resulting in an official invitation to the 15th Istropolitana Project 2004, an international student theater festival held from June 26 to June 30, 2004.[14]
  • In winter 2004, the Dolgochi Troupe (극단 돌곶이) performed an incubator performance for three days at the Jayu Theater in the Seoul Arts Center. During this period, Kim Ji-hyun showcased her talent in "The Mirror Princess Pyeonggang Story" from December 9th to the 19th. Additionally, she also took part in "Finding Kim Jong-wook" from December 17th to the 19th, 2004. The Story of Mirror Princess Pyeonggang expanded its performances to local cultural centers and regional festivals, drawing the attention of a performance planner. This eventually led to their "debut" in Daehangno, a performance district in Seoul.[15]
  • In 2002, Korea National University of Arts Theater Institute (Director Kim Gwang-rim) founded its own theater company Dolgochi Troupe (극단 돌곶이).[16] Dolgochi Troupe (Korean극단 돌곶이; RRGeukdan Dolgochi; lit. Theater Troupe Stone Wall)
  • Kim Ji-hyun. Finding Kim Jong-wook, which had a humble beginning as a school workshop performance in 2004. since 2006. she has appeared on the show every season except for one season.[14][17]
  • Their debut work in 2004, 'The Story of Mirror Princess Pyeonggang', is an adaptation of the story of Princess Pyeonggang and Babo Ondal from the Three Kingdoms period into a love story between Princess Pyeonggang's maid Yeon and a wild boy. This work, well-known in Daehakro by the nickname 'Geopyeong', excludes any sound, lighting, and stage sets as if it were an 'a cappella musical,' and the actors not only use their voices to sing and perform sound effects such as accompaniment, but also use their gestures to create a swan cave. It creates various images such as trees and lakes. Although it was made in 2004 with only 1 million won, it received 350 million won in investment from CJ Entertainment based on positive reviews from the audience. 'Ganda' has been busy traveling with this work from a small school classroom in a mountain village to a movie theater in Apgujeong-dong, Seoul.[18]
  • Created in 2004 by graduates of the Korea National University of Arts' Theater Institute, 'Ganda' has become known for its lively expressions and performances that bring out the emotions of everyday life. This year, the scale was expanded to include 7 performances as a parade. The first half of the year ‘goes realistically’. Introducing four plays. The new work ‘At our karaoke…’ It starts with ‘Shall we talk?’ (4th to April 6th, Daehakro Theater) and ends with ‘The End Room’. The second half of the year is ‘Going Singing’. They plan to perform two existing musicals and the new work ‘Once Upon a Time’.[19]

Unlike SM-YG-JYP, known as the top three entertainment companies, iHQ, which has a profit structure centered on actors, has boldly given up recruiting big actors unlike in the past because of the down payment-to-profit ratio. Entertainment companies pay an average of several billion won in exclusive contracts to famous celebrities, but the profit sharing ratio for activities such as advertising filming is only 9 to 1 on average.[42]

Entertainment agencies usually take only 20% of the money earned and give the remaining 80% to the star. Profit distribution ranges from 9 to 1 or 10 to 0 depending on star rating.[43][44]

Profit distribution, excluding fixed costs, is around 200 million won... When it comes to running guarantee, it’s a tax bomb.[45]

Discovering a new talent and turning him or her into a star involves enormous costs, including various training costs, clothing costs, hair care costs, vehicle costs, and promotional costs. According to Ajou University's report on 'Study on the Profit Structure of the Entertainment Management Industry', casting a star actor as the lead in a drama costs 10 million won per month for makeup and 6 million won for car lease and gas. Costs are fixed and do not go down significantly. In the case of rookies, it takes several months or years of 'upfront investment' even if there is no profit, so it costs billions of won to turn them into decent stars.[49]

CEO Cho, who started as a jazz ballerina and became a theater actor, learned to plan a performance over the shoulder and became the top event in Daehak-ro after 18 years as an agency.[1]

It's already been 10 years since I ate a pot of rice in the performance industry. However, each other's activities are different, so we formed a 'Yangd' group at the beginning of this year.[3]

Cho Haeng-deok, CEO of Crocodile Company, who has a thick bones in the theater industry, is a person who overcame difficulties with hard work and ambition.

I went to the preview despite the opposition of the family, and while walking on the road of Valerino, I saw 'Heo Jae-bi Nori' directed by Lee Yoon-taek by chance and turned to be an actor. When the play made with the money I lent to an acquaintance was ruined, I transformed from an actor to a producer and tasted the joy of success. He is a person who has never given up on 'play' even in the midst of hardship and adversity, and has always looked at it with warm eyes.[10]

"I think the reason the theater has been stagnant over the past decade is because it has lost the identity of the play, 'truth'. I want to revive the university road of 'Mecca of Theater' through performances that have been proven not just for the box office."

Issues in Public Image Section[edit]

Original Version[edit]

On October 17, 2021, a woman claiming to be the ex-girlfriend of "Actor K" (later revealed to be Kim) made allegations on a Korean internet forum that the actor had coerced her into getting an abortion while the two were dating.[1][2][3] On October 20, 2021, in light of his ex-girlfriend's claims, he issued a public apology through his agency.[2][3][4] As the ex-girlfriend's claims gathered public attention, a few companies such as Domino's Pizza quickly pulled their advertisements featuring Kim.[1][2] Kim stepped down from being a permanent cast member of the KBS variety show 2 Days & 1 Night,[5] and subsequently withdrew from film projects Dog Days and Lee Sang-geun's romantic comedy 2 O'Clock Date.[6][7]

On October 20, 2021, Kim's ex-girlfriend issued a new statement, stating that there were some misunderstandings between them and that she has received an apology from him.[8] She also apologised for causing unintentional damage. On October 26, 2021, a Korean media outlet published new evidence challenging the accusations of Kim's ex-girlfriend, citing sources from close acquaintances of both Kim and his ex-girlfriend. Screen-captures of chat conversations from acquaintances revealed that the ex-girlfriend had been the one to suggest the abortion, contrary to her claim. The pair then split up about a year after due to questionable circumstances surrounding the ex-girlfriend's personal life. Testimonies from acquaintances of both Kim and his ex-girlfriend continued to surface, refuting various claims previously made by the ex-girlfriend.[9][10] Following new reports, most companies began resuming advertisements featuring Kim.[11] The production team of the film Sad Tropics also announced their decision to proceed with their project and list Kim as the lead actor.[12]

Proposed changed from TW[edit]

On October 26, 2021, a Korean gossip media Dispatch published testimonies challenging the abortion accusations of Kim's ex-girlfriend,[54], however no confirmation about this from either Kim Seon-ho or his ex-girlfriend. Following new reports, two companies began resuming advertisements featuring Kim.[11] The production team of the film Sad Tropics also announced their decision to proceed with their project and list Kim as the lead actor.[12] In July 2022, Kim Seon-ho later apologized for the controversies.

Disputes[edit]

Regarding issues about Kim Seon-ho’s page, as editor I respect consensus made on November 13, 2013. I didn’t do any edit of that section until December 29, 2022. My last edit was an attempt to reach compromise on the neutrality of the article. I respect administrator choice to lock the page and escalate the topic into dispute to reach another consensus. From hereafter I will refer to Kim Seon-ho as (Subject) and his ex girlfriend as A. Before my latest edit, other editor had concern about the existing article and made significant edit to the second paragraph. Summary as follow.

Original Content Summary of proposed edit from other editor My Comment
a Korean media outlet a Korean gossip media Dispatch Suggestion “a Korean entertainment media, Dispatch”.
“ On October 20, 2021, Kim's ex-girlfriend issued a new statement, stating that there were some misunderstandings between them and that she has received an apology from him. no comment Source Korea Times:

This statement from Legal Representative of A is relevant. "We'll take all possible legal measures against malignant news reports, internet posts and replies," a law firm that represents her said in a statement. This should not be omitted from the section. Press reached Ms. A for comment after this through her legal rep.

citation from SCMP Replacing SCMP citation to citation from The Straits Times. I object deletion of citation from SCMP because it’s already include in WP:RPS. SCMP reliability status is WP:GREL, higher than The Straits Times status WP:MREL. This was already archived so adhere to WP:PAYWALL.
No direct mention to Dispatch, however SCMP article was based on Dispatch. Opinion: Dispatch is an unreliable sources. Nominating Dispatch as unreliable source should be done in wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard or wikipedia:KO/RS talk page until it reach consensus from members of wikipedia:KO.
Concern on no report corroborates Dispatch on testimonies and evidences regarding the case. Hence neutral POV according to editor opinion was not to trust any press and to remove some sentences from existing article. There is press report that corroborates Dispatch on testimonies and evidences regarding the case. (see bellow)
“new evidence challenging the accusations of Kim's ex-girlfriend, citing sources from close acquaintances of both Kim and his ex-girlfriend. Screen-captures of chat conversations from acquaintances revealed that the ex-girlfriend had been the one to suggest the abortion, contrary to her claims. The pair then split up about a year after due to questionable circumstances surrounding the ex-girlfriend's personal life. Testimonies from acquaintances of both Kim and his ex-girlfriend continued to surface, refuting various claims previously made by the ex-girlfriend.” published testimonies challenging the abortion accusations of Kim's ex-girlfriend, however no confirmation about this from either Kim Seon-ho or his ex-girlfriend. We should reach consensus on how to improve this part. Older version is better, than proposed, but has majority flaws. It’s only mention articles from October 26, 2021. (See below). It need correction in that area and need more citations aside one existing.
“Following the new reports, most companies began resuming advertisements featuring Kim.” Change “most” to “two” in this sentence: “Following the new reports, two companies began resuming advertisements featuring Kim.” Following new reports, most companies began resuming advertisements featuring Kim.[11][13][14][15] This decission made 11th Street, suffered a boycott campaign from it’s customer. Despite that, The Kim Seon-ho effect still great. "2021 Eleventh Festival", the largest online shopping festival of the year organized by 11th Street, had double-digit growth compared to previous year. On November, 12, 2021, it was reported that 11th Street broke all records of number of transactions, sales, number of views every day from November 1st to the 11th during the ‘2021 Eleven Festival’.[16]
In July 2022, Kim Seon-ho later apologized for the controversies.[17] This apology is related to Theater comeback. Not really relevant for this section. Refer to this citation for better insight.[18]

Proposal on evaluating sources[edit]

Context[edit]

As editor I adhere to WP:EVAL, always evaluate sources within the context of Wikipedia's content policies. Using published press coverage that refer to Dispatch, is FAIR base on WP:RSCONTEXT, that state sources which are generally unreliable may still be useful in some situations. WP:RSCONTEXT also stated that reliability of a source depends on Context. Each source must be carefully weighed to judge whether it is reliable for the statement being made in the Wikipedia article and is an appropriate source for that content. Considering weight, living persons have the highest of burden of proof the claims that editor is supporting, which should also be evaluated alongside the reliability of the sources cited. Section in discussion, cover how an accusation impact subject’s public image. So all the follow-up news coverages after the event must be reported. Paragraph one of the section describes the accusation and the consequences. Press coverages cited the accusation refer to material from Internet forum that unreliable per WP:UGC without proof accepted per WP:UBO. Paragraph two of the section served as Rebuttal of the accusation, for fairness, per WP:UBO, can use press coverage that refer to Dispatch. It necessary to describe why it’s False accusation, and how that’s turn of events changed public image of the subject. Per WP:UBO if Dispatch refer by many sources listed in wikipedia:WikiProject Korea/Reliable sources or Wikipedia:Reliable sources, how accepted and high-quality reliable sources use a given source provides evidence, positive or negative, for its reliability and reputation. The more widespread and consistent this use is, the stronger the evidence.

Back to basic, checking sources by its definitions[edit]

Source must be judge with the basic according to Wikipedia:SOURCEDEF. Dispatch articles must also be judge by these three concepts:

  • The piece of work itself
  • The creator of the work
  • The publisher of the work

The piece of work itself[edit]

The piece of works are exclusive reports from entertainment internet newspaper. Judging only with content of the piece of work, it’s clear that Dispatch did not base its report on rumor/anonymous sources. Dispatch did their own investigation with a team consist of two reporters (Article from October 26, 2021[19]) & three reporters (Article from November 1, 2021[20]). They have sources & witness which are acquaintances of Subject & A. Non disclosure of the sources (use of initial/term acquintances) is inline with journalism principle of reporter privilege of Source protection. It’s not the same with anonymous sources. Witnesses also provide proof in the form of chat screenshot. Their investigation suggested that Subject was victim of False accusation, in such accusations that are determined to be false based on corroborating evidence, of this type: an allegation that is false, in that it mixes descriptions of events that actually happened with other events that did not occur. This called citation attached from original report (Dispatch).

On afternoon of November 1, 2021, in SBS radio's "Current Affairs Task Force" (SBS라디오 ‘시사특공대’) episode 1101 SBS reporter Kang Kyung-yoon, appeared on to report her investigation. Her statement transcript according to Money Today as follow:

Translation:

“There are people who say, "Isn't Kim Seon-ho taking lead in the media play?" but to my knowledge he's not taking any action at all. In fact he's so shocked by this whole situation that he's largely considering just giving up everything. I'm talking about his entertainment career. What's fascinating is that it's A's friends that are stepping up, not Kim Seon-ho's side. 5 to 6 of her friends tipped the media and handed over their texts exchanged with A and Kim Seon-ho's texts A sent to them, claiming 'Kim Seon-ho's current situation is too unfortunate.' I find it fascinating because I've never encountered such a situation.[21]

This sources corroborates Dispatch on witnesses and text messages. Hence Korean press coverage published after November 1, 2021 refer to all three reports, then ask for statement from both parties. Regarding the Dispatch report, Kim's ex-girlfriend’s side told Chosun Ilbo that they were "confirming the content of the article" and had no particular position.[22] Kim's agency SALT Entertainment refused to comment on the matter.[23]

So in conclusion more updated press coverage by Korean medias covering this issue not only refer to one article but to five sources as follow:

  1. 1st Article: Dispatch Exclusive Report published on October 26, 2021
  2. 2nd Article: Dispatch Exclusive Report published on November 2, 2021
  3. SBS radio's "Current Affairs Task Force" (SBS라디오 ‘시사특공대’) episode 1101, that was broadcast on November 1, 2021, in afternoon with SBS reporter Kang Kyung-yoon. The broadcast is documented in SBS Network Website
  4. SALT Entertaintment statement (subject’s agency)
  5. Ms. A through her Legal Representative

In journalism POV article that refer to five points above already adhere to fairness and accuracy in reporting.

Original content missed these details due relaying to only citation from SCMP. I propose to add citations from other reliable sources such as JoongAng Ilbo[24] and Chosun Ilbo.[25] Citing original pieces from Dispatch are also necessary because it gives reader access to the witness testimonies and proof. For the coherency of the contents, It’s important to include this information: Choiseon, a law firm, announced that on behalf of A they will take all possible legal measures against reports, posts, and comments of malicious content against A.[26][27]

The creator of the work[edit]

Checking on the creator of the work, the journalist: "What do we know about that source's reputation?"

The publisher of the work[edit]

Checking on the publisher of the work. What do we know about that source's publisher (the original investigation).

Random Notes[edit]

Then I’ll nominate the citation from Woman Chosun, part of The Chosun Ilbo. I mention seven companies. I hesitate to edit by myself because the source stated that the Japanese brand never privated their content. Not sure if I should edit it with most or seven.

Following new reports, seven companies began resuming advertisements featuring Kim.[30][31]

Consider to add this to citation[32]
