Welcome to the Formula 1 circuit map project, as started by me, Prisonermonkeys. I've set this page up because of something that has been bothering me for some time: the diagrams of Formula 1 circuits are frustratingly inconsistent, and it has been an ambition of mine to see the problem fixed. An attempt at this was made late last year, but it soon ground to a halt, and six months later, there has been no progress, and so I think the time is ripe to try again.

Unfortunately, I have no talent whatsoever for drawing or the use of graphics programs, so I've had to enlist some outside help. There has been some support for this over at the Formula 1 WikiProject, but it has mostly been limited to "yeah, this needs to be done" for now. And that's where you come in. I'm hoping to get some help from the Graphics Lab map workshop to do this. I know it's a big job because there are seventy diagrams altogether, but for now, I just want to concentrate on getting the diagrams for all current (and the immediate future) done. After that, we might go back to the older ones.

Here is an example of what I am talking about - four different circuits, with four different styles of map design:

It looks, for want of a better word, unprofessional.

Since I'm totally useless when it comes to drawing things, I think it's probably best if I leave the discussion of the best way to present the images to people who actually know how to use these programs. I believe AlexJ was on the right path during last year's attempt, so I'm hoping that discussion might serve as a good starting point for anyone who wants to contribute.

If you have any questions feel free to post them here or on my talk page. I'll try to remember to check this page at least once a day to address any issues you may have. Until then, thanks for helping out on this little project. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 04:20, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
