Do you have a minute

I know you just posted to /Clerks that you're busy but do you have a minute to look at something? I've modified {{tl:Rfcub}} to include a Category:Closed requests for checkuser as an alternate way of keeping track (besides manually adding them to the /Case page). I figured out how to get them listed alphabetically but I'd like for only the subpage name to show in the category (i.e. "Lightbringer" instead of "Wikipedia/Requests for checkuser/Case/Lightbringer". Any suggestions? Thatcher131 20:03, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, they are alphabetized, which was my main goal, its just that showing the full page name is a little ugly. Do you think we should not be subst:ing the Rfcua and Rfcub templates in case we want to change it later. (Most have been subst'ed but some recent ones weren't. Thatcher131 20:16, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
see my talk page for followups. Thatcher131 20:27, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, I knew they should be listed in what links here, but they weren't, and I couldn't remember their names to check the history. I figured you did it, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't some arcane bit of wikicruft at work. Thatcher131 01:19, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

VandalProof

You recently approved my application to use VandalProof. Upon loading the software and logging in I get a "Your log-in request failed" message. The message states that I should attempt to contact the person that approved my application to verify that I am on the list of authorized users. Please advise. Kershner 18:15, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello. User:Michael D. Wolok, has been blocked due to vandalism he did not committ. What is up with that? --scareslamfist 22:43, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Hail Mary (translations)

Hi, as the closing admin of this AFD here I got a question for you. The whole article is now moved to wikisource. wikisource.org/wiki/Hail_Mary. Can the article now be speedy deleted since its transwikied or wasn't that the general consensus in the afd. I don't think I want to put the article up for another afd, it's not that important. I just like to clean up. Garion96 (talk) 02:40, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your very fast response. So much for the "I'm out" sign. :) I will prod the article and see what happens. Garion96 (talk) 02:49, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

"So this is the wiki...."

Indeed I am. I've already got LBMixPro and Moe Epsilon sysoped there. Won't you come join us? It's not quite as high-minded as WP, but then again, the beaurocracy is virtually nil. -Mysekurity [m!] 04:58, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I completed step 2, but without db access, I can't change the value of the license content (it's stored in a global variable). Also, most of the articles taken from Wikipedia were deleted here, and that's the reason they're over there. I'm not sure of the licensing, but I'd say LBMixPro and I have done a pretty good job at making sure that there's no overlap in the article space (does the GFDL apply to CSS hacks like {{tl}} or {{click}}? It seems that Tl is a pretty simple template, and wouldn't require any recognition of contributions...). Things like ytmnd.com/wiki/index.php/YTMND_Soundtrack the soundtrack, for example, aren't really prose, and have changed a great deal since they were over here. The track listing is the work of a YTMNDer (as with most of the content). I'm confused as to how this is to be handled. Thanks for getting back to me though. -Mysekurity [m!] 16:53, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
Remove? Remove how? -Mysekurity [m!] 17:21, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

IP Blocking

See my comment at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#62.171.194.5, but I'd also extract the following from WP:BLOCK#Controversial_blocks:

For static IPs and user names, such blocks should initially last 24 hours, but repeat violators may be blocked for increasing lengths of time. ... However, indefinite blocks should not be used against isolated incidents of disruption from IP addresses nor against user accounts that make a mixture of disruptive and useful edits.

The problem here is that these 20 IPs are *only* making disruptive/vandal edits. It isn't a "mixture". Together with the only option left on most being "indefinite" re increasing lengths of time then there was no real option. I wish there was, but all of those IPs have been repeatedly and repeatedly warned, with no effect. This is all we have left as a way of dealing with the clear and present problem. --AlisonW 18:43, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

It isn't that simple, sadly. cf Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive65#Inexhaustible_vandalism_from_the_UK_Internet_for_Learning:_range_block_warranted.3F and Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive54#Inexhaustible_vandalism_from_the_UK_Internet_for_Learning:_range_block_warranted.3F. We need a better *technical* solution that permits whitelisting, but until that point we will continue to have a very serious problem. Blocking for one month at a time serves no purpose whatsoever as all that does is increase admin overhead in blocking the twenty addresses once a month manually. --AlisonW 18:53, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
blocks seem justified. Believe me, I really wish the blocks weren't justified! I just can't see we have a way around the problem which has clearly been ongoing for a long time. As regards the users concerned they will have to continue using the procedure they do presently, of asking for the block to be temporarily lifted (all the IPs concerned are blocked most of the time anyway and that is what they have needed to do in the past). What we need - as has been pointed out before - is the 'white list' option on handles to bypass IP locks. --AlisonW 19:06, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
Except that as month-long blocks have been tried *repeatedly* they clearly (sadly) don't. --AlisonW 19:06, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Feet on the ground!

Prodego, I hear what you're saying, but I've taken to keeping my feet on the ground at all times, and this is where you're going to hear me say it. I've opened the topic up at Wikipedia talk:Blocking policy#Permablocking IPs. As for Celestianpower and Sceptre, well, they can unblock themselves, since the block is not of them specifically. Let's see how the discussion goes. bd2412 T 22:58, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I am going to go take a short break. Prodego talk 23:00, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Autowikibrowser request - I have over 500 edits

How come you didn't add me to the list?

See http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&offset=20060621013153&limit=500&target=Transhumanist

--Transhumanist 01:31, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Okay, I think I'm there

And the list of others who want to join the Autowikibrowser is piling up -- there are 4 day's worth of requests on there now. Just thought you'd like to know. --Transhumanist 08:12, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

By the way, how do you check a user's edits by type? --Transhumanist 08:12, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Autowikibrowser

Hey, you approved my Alphachimpbot account...but not as a bot. Could you fix that?

Thanks, --Alphachimp talk 01:50, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for botting Alphachimpbot. --Alphachimp talk 06:04, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Dispute from user with no WikPedia account

Prodego,

I have started the process of dispute resolution for..

Virtual Inheritance (object-oriented programming)

The dispute originator, however, does not have a WikiUser web page. So, as far as I know, I can't ask for a review from them.

What should I do?

Signed,

New but persistent :-)

Removal of see also section (also category)

Prodego,

Did you intend to remove the see also and categories section? If not I'll put them back in.

Also, should I remove the clean up section later on (after I add the 'classic' code examples (for Virtual Inheritance)?

Thanks again for your help.

CB Brooklyn

In an attempt to extend olive branch, I have promised not to edit the article that had CBB up in arms, and additionally, I noted to him that if he promises not to edit the article, often times, blocks will be removed. I would very much appreciate it, if he does make such a promise, that you unblock him such that we can productively fix the article in question. I am concerned that the amount of hard-intervention the user is getting will cause him to become further entrenched rather than communicative, but I leave the mechanics of convincing him to talk in your more capable hands Hipocrite - «Talk» 16:35, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

AFD

Thanks for the Tip - I thought I did do but clearly I went wrong somewhere.

--Charlesknight 21:02, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Which bit is the script for the AFD process or is it possible for you to copy it into my http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Charlesknight/monobook.js for me?

Many thanks.

--Charlesknight 21:06, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Dunno if it works I need to find an article to AFD! :) Does it uses pop-ups? or does it kick in when I add the templates?

--Charlesknight 22:00, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Feel free to test away!

--Charlesknight 22:06, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Works fine - many thanks - will save me having to keep refering to the AFD page for all the bloody stages, links etc! --Charlesknight 22:14, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
