Teletubbies protection and the banned user who just won't take a hint

I understand completely why you removed this, as it has been along time, but I wonder if you would consent to watchlisting this article, as I believe it is extremely likely that the banned user who prompted this protection will quickly return. He tends to come back every weekend and is fixated on Charlotte's Web, and the Teletubbies. The talk page history [1] and this page [2] will give you some idea of the level of refusal to accept a ban we are dealing with here. Thanks Beeblebrox (talk) 05:20, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Certainly. Additionally, if the problem recurs, any admin should feel free to reprotect it. Prodego talk 05:24, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

RickeyGoodling, Godblessyrblackheart

Hi,

This is just a quick heads-up to say, I'm investigating this issue, that I think you might have discussed with Godblessyrblackheart (can't find it in your archive, but from the half-conversation on their talk page).

Godblessyrblackheart raised a helpme, and has explained their version of the history to me.

I've started investigating, and I will get to the bottom of the matter, assume good faith, and try to help them to come to some form of consensus to resolve the edit conflicts and other issues raised.

I'm not asking for your input from you at this stage, I just realize that you might've been involved in the matter in the past, and thought it would be good to let you know what's happening.

I'll be posting my findings on my own talk page under User talk:Chzz#User:RickeyGoodling.

All the best, --  Chzz  ►  23:47, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Disable the filters

Haven't you noted Werdna's plea ? Don't use actions beside logging now. Disable the filters now ... for some reasons, probably cache, I can't edit the abuse filter. Cenarium (talk) 00:11, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Don't worry, I have involved with testing AbuseFilter with Wernda, and have been talking to him since AF went live on IRC. Prodego talk 00:13, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
Aren't we suppose to have consensus before activating a filter ? Cenarium (talk) 00:16, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
Well I don't believe there are any rules at the moment. The 2 enabled (one of which only gives a warning, and doesn't stop edits) are both fairly obvious cases of vandalism. Prodego talk 00:18, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. Cases where filters are very specific and limited should be uncontroversial. But I think filters affecting a large number of users/edits should be discussed beforehand, on-wiki. Cenarium (talk) 14:44, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Arbitrary limits

Yes, we really should have something between autoconfirmed (which all move vandals are) and sysop which is generally too stringent. We can discuss what limit is appropriate (Werdna has a filter with a different arbitrary limit by the way), but yes I definitely think some intermediate class is appropriate. By the way, anyone made a forum for discussing these things yet? Dragons flight (talk) 00:56, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

I don't think so. The message links to Wikipedia talk:Abusefilter. Prodego talk 00:57, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Abuse Filter Edit Conflict

We just conflicted in filter editing. Please be aware that there is apparently no warning or conflict resolution. Dragons flight (talk) 05:37, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for protecting my user page and the user pages of my friends from vandalism. Gantuya eng (talk) 13:23, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Please do not revert good faith removals of speedy deletion notices, reverts of the kind you performed should only be used for vandalism edits. Forward planning failure (talk) 00:20, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Filter

Thank you!  :) NawlinWiki (talk) 00:26, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Feel free to add other things to that as needed. It is a highly specific one (so we can safely block anyone who trips it). Prodego talk 00:31, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Well, I thought I was adding something highly specific, and obviously I wasn't. I didn't just un-autoconfirm 200 users, did I? NawlinWiki (talk) 01:11, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
You did. But we fixed it. Mind you that that you should always test first... ALWAYS. Prodego talk 01:23, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Filter 58 badness

I've reported this in the appropriate place, but in case you don't see it: [3]. This WP:BITEY behavior needs to stop immediately. And I am also concerned that I now can't even see the details of Filter 58: has the filter somehow messed up my admin bit? —David Eppstein (talk) 01:11, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

NawlinWiki broke it. I fixed it, that is why I am shown as the last modifying it. Prodego talk 01:12, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. —David Eppstein (talk) 01:19, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Just out of interest, how were the users re-autoconfirmed? I thought that that wasn't technically possible? :-) ╟─TreasuryTagcontribs─╢ 18:04, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

At first it was by me, manually restoring each person's via a new interface we have in the AbuseFilter. Then Werdna just reverted the whole filter, and undid it all at once. He forgot to give us that right... :) Prodego talk 18:06, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Earlier today you briefly disabled this filter. You later re-enabled it saying you misread. Could you explain how you misread? (What you thought it said) Perhaps I can improve on the description. - Mgm|(talk) 19:13, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Was checking some of the filters, and I actually mistook some hits on a different filter as being hit by that filter. Too many tabs :). That is one of the better titled ones, IMO. Prodego talk 21:08, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
  • What annoys me is edits that trigger multiple filters. Sometimes I'm wasting way too much time trying to find where an edit went that was tagged by one filter and warned by another. I hope Werdna can work something out that some filters can stop stealing each other's hits without copying entire exclusion elements over. - Mgm|(talk) 22:17, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Well we don't want to disable it. Imagine if you hit a 'warn' filter for removing a ref tag, and it stops before checking the ZOMG CRASH WIKIPEDIA filter set on desysop :). That would be annoying, especially since we can't control the order of the filters. Prodego talk 22:31, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
  • Well, that's basically on my wishlist: some way to order the way filters are run, so we can have lines that say "filterX has been tripped" -- don't run this one. - Mgm|(talk) 10:52, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
  • Does the AbuseFilter extension allow temporary programmer-created variables I can use to store the outcome of a regex match so I can use it to match in multiple other lines? If yes, what particular flavor of regex are we using? So far I haven't strayed from the commonly shared expressions that all variations share. - Mgm|(talk) 11:09, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Introductions

Hi Prodego, I'm being bold and introducing myself. My name is Christian Hejnal and I play in a band called Scarling. with my wife Jessicka. I've noticed there's been a little unnecessary mud slinging in her direction by a disgruntled person. I just wanted to put it out there that if you had any issues with any pages related to my wife, my band, our roommate Lisa Leveridge, my co-worker Rickey Goodling, or myself, please don't hesitate to come to me directly. I'm happy to help.

I am new to wikipedia and currently trying to get familiar with all the rules and protocol here. I believe whole heartily in a neutral stance but also would like things written about any of the previously mentioned pages to be factual. I'm about to do an interview with a third party publication to set some things straight. Until then I just wanted to introduce myself.

take care, Xtian1313 (talk) 02:32, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks so much! Actually, maybe you could cruise over and just check out User talk:Chzz. I hope I am doing the right thing, as I am new here and just want a mess straightened out without having people dislike me right off the bat. Thanks in advance, Xtian1313 (talk) 17:00, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Hello Remeber Me

I was wondering if you could teache me how to do all that cool stuff you have on your userpage and how to be an admin or how to get awards such as barnstars My user page is User page: Darkspartan4121 :0) Darn can't even make a simeple link o well...[[4]] click on this

Thanks for blocking that filter so the log wouldn't be too messed up. (Naturally, there's always something that messes up a filter). Do you know of any other templates or magic words that could have the same effect? Also, I didn't mind the filter being disabled, but I would've liked a message telling me to fix rather than finding out by accident that it was disabled. - Mgm|(talk) 09:12, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

I did leave a message in the filter comments saying that I disabled it and why. The only other thing I can think of is PAGENAMEE. Prodego talk 12:25, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Well, that goes to show how impracticle the filter comments are. :) (Mgm, too lazy to log in on a public computer) - 131.211.211.226 (talk) 13:45, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Unlinking/edits

Hi Prodego,

Per user: Chzz's request I am asking if there is any way to unlink my wife Jessicka's name and my band Scarling's name for this part of your talk archive: [5]

Basically the accusations made by user:Godblessyrblackheart are false and I don't want slanderous talk linked to my wife or my band.

Forgive me if I'm out of line in asking this. An extensive talk about this topic is located on user:Chzz's talk pages: [6] * [7] *[8]

I'm not sure if you want to go through reading all of that mess- but I believe the final consensus was to either delete or unlink slanderous remarks. This of course entirely up to you.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, Xtian1313 (talk) 00:06, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Unlink, as in remove the links? That would be fine. As long as the overall meaning of the discussion is unchanged, it doesn't really matter. Prodego talk 00:43, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Yes, Just remove the links around Scarling. & Jessicka.. That would be great! Thanks for being helpful. Xtian1313 (talk) 01:37, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Done. Prodego talk 01:45, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
