Sustainability is the capacity to endure. In ecology the word describes how species avoid overshoot of their environment, and subsequent population collapse and/or extinction (ecocide). Huamn sustainability ultimately depends on human behavior. The field of psychology and sustainability examines how psychological science might be used to help to promote sustainability.
