Danny Trent, stage name of Nicola Daniele Trentadue (Bari, November 24, 1984), is an Italian fingerstyle guitarist known for his performances both in Italy and internationally.

Biography

[edit]

His passion for music began at the age of nine when he received a classical guitar as a Christmas gift[1]. Trent started playing by ear, inspired by the solos of Mark Knopfler from the Dire Straits. After three years, he enrolled in a music school and graduated with top honors from the "Niccolò Piccinni" Conservatory of Music in Bari.

During his teenage years, he became interested in the electric guitar and acoustic guitar, exploring various musical genres. He was part of the underground music scene in Bari, playing in bands like Insomnia and Astrea, with whom he recorded the 2005 EP From Birth to Confusion and performed at festivals such as the 2006 Sziget Festival[2].

He attended seminars and masterclasses with prominent instructors like Eduardo Isaac, Flavio Cucchi, Lorenzo Micheli, Matteo Mela, and Aniello Desiderio. He was a member of the De Falla Guitar Orchestra, directed by Maestro Pasquale Scarola, with whom he performed at various festivals and on television programs[3].

Trent perfected his fingerpicking and fingerstyle techniques with world-renowned musicians like Don Ross, Preston Reed, Doyle Dykes, and Tommy Emmanuel. He infused classical orchestra elements with fingerstyle, performing repertoires from pioneers like Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed. Over the past fifteen years, he has taught guitar in various academies and music schools, and has played in tribute bands for artists such as Bon Jovi[4], Stevie Ray Vaughan[5], and Michael Jackson[6].

He formed the acoustic duo Cheek2Cheek with singer Lorella Falcone[7], reinterpreting 1950s classics in a fingerstyle format. As a session man, he has collaborated with numerous artists and opened concerts for Peter Cincotti, Fiordaliso, and Danilo Rea. In 2021, he joined Antonella Ruggiero's band[8][9].

His international career includes performances in Canada, where he composed many of the tracks for his debut album Two Homes[10], released in 2018 under the record label CD Baby. The single Waterfalls was chosen by Rob Poland, founder of the U.S. label Candyrat Records, for their YouTube channel[11], receiving thousands of views.

In 2019, Trent was awarded "Emerging Guitarist" at the XXVI ADGPA Convention and XIV Guitar International Rendez-vous[12], earning him a spot at the Festival De la Guitare in Issoudun[13], France. He was a finalist among the top 5 acoustic guitarists worldwide in the "Acoustic Guitarist of The Year 2020" contest organized by Guitar World and Guitar Player Magazine[14]. He participated in the NAMM Show from 2022 to 2024, with concerts and showcases[15], and is an endorser for the U.S. brand Timberline Guitars and AER amps.
