Francis Ward Chandler (September 30, 1844 – September 8, 1925) was an American architect and architectural educator.

https://backbayhouses.org/francis-ward-chandler/ Born in Boston, Ma., he attended the Lancaster Academy in Massachusetts and graduated in 1861. From 1862 to 1863, he served as a private in the Massachusetts Volunteers and then began studying architecture. From 1867 to 1869, Chandler was a student at the Atelier Daumet, Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. After returning to Boston, he partnered with Edward Clark Cabot. In 1888, he withdrew from the partnership to accept a position as Professor of Architecture at MIT; he later became head of his department. Chandler wrote a number of books on architecture. He was a member of the Boston Society of Architects and served as the architectural advisor to the mayor of Boston from 1896 to 1900. Chandler died in North Haven, Maine on September 8, 1925.
