From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I compared "house" between the English and the Japanese Wikipedia articles. Really the only reason I chose this article was because all the Japanese people I've ever know always take off their shoes before entering a house, so I thought there might be an interesting comparison between the two cultures.

The biggest difference I noticed between the two articles is the concept of a house. In the English article, a house is referred to as what most would typically think of as a house -- rooms, corridors, etc. The Japanese article differed slightly in that it also mentioned house boats and cardboard boxes used as houses by homeless people. It seems as if the Japanese article really focused on "house" as a concept and idea, whereas the English article focused on what we traditionally think of as a house.

I was actually pretty surprised by the difference between these two articles. I wasn't expecting a huge difference, but the difference in point of view between the two is distinct and very interesting.
