About me

I am from the Pacific Northwest, and am interested in many different things from weightlifting, to Call of Duty, to anime. I have a dog whom I love very much, who is a mix of many different breeds but resembles a taller, more muscular beagle. Did you know that the gene diversity within mixed breed dogs reduces the chance of hereditary diseases? Outside of my hobby interests, I am pursuing an education in engineering, as the applications of math within real life fascinates me and what it allows society to accomplish. Other things I enjoy are spending time with my friends and family, watching and rating movies, and watching football (college football specifically).

My Wikipedia interests

My interests within Wikipedia will most likely be researching topics that I find interesting or require information on. If I do end up contributing to or editing any articles, they will be on niche topics within my said interests.

Article Evaluation

I have had a slight interest in retro video games and the communities around them for some time now and was curious about how word got around before time the of accessibility on the internet that we have and see today. I then came across the Next Generation Magazine, which ran from 1995 to 2002. I think such an interesting time before widespread internet coverage should be covered as in depth and correctly as possible, so I visited the Next Generation Magazine article on Wikipedia and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: Its lack of citations, information left out of the article, and grammatical or unprofessional and informal language.

Lack of Citations

The page is missing lots of citations, only having 5 in total, 2 of which are specifically information regarding the shutdown and rebranding of the site. Upon further inspection, the sources do cover a majority of the information, however there could be better and more organized sources to cite, as well as direct ties into the text to show what specific information was cited from which source. The reliability of these sources is also questionable, as most of them are from early 2000 websites due to the age of the magazine, so a more diverse collection of sources could help the overall verifiability of the information.

Lack of Information

I noticed while looking through the site that there are many topics that are covered on other Wikipedia magazine pages that are not covered for Next Generation Magazine. There is no information regarding its reception/ audience reviews, in depth explanations of any editorial sections, its influence, or its traffic/ popularity.

Grammatical Correctness

The page at first appeared to have some grammatical errors or unintelligible language throughout it, however upon further inspection the page is grammatically solid and appears to have no errors or mistypes.

Conclusion

Altogether, this page is flawed. The information included covers the basics and baseline information of what Next Generation Magazine used to be, but however does not cover specific details that other magazines and publications have covered. Grammatically, the page is satisfactory, but the lack of citations questions the verifiability of the information displayed.
