How Mixtures Can Be Separated[edit]

There are many ways on how mixtures can be separated in everyday life. I will be going through three ways on how mixtures can be separated in everyday life.

No. 1 EVAPORATION:

Evaporation can be used as a separation method to separate components of a mixture with a dissolved solid in a liquid. The liquid is evaporated, meaning it is convert from its liquid state to gaseous state. This often requires heat. Once the liquid is completely evaporated, the solid is all that is left behind.

No. 2 SIEVING

This method of separation of particles from a mixture based on the difference in size of particles is known as sieving. It uses sieve plates for separation of coarse particles from finer particles. Sieve plates have meshed or perforated bottoms which allow only particles of a specific size to pass through it.

No. 3 SEDIMENTATION

Sedimentation is a form of separating substances. This process involves letting an insoluble substance (a substance that will not dissolve in a solvent) settle. Hence, sedimentation can be used for separation of solid-liquid mixtures, where solid is insoluble. Such mixtures are called suspension.
