From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Real Atheism is an allusion to the idea of a positive atheism, one that tells us what is, rather than merely being a negative reaction to religion, that negates religious belief and such like, making irrational belief dysfunctional, without saying why it persists in dominating our world. In order to create a positive atheism we need to make atheism and science one and the same thing, and thus we need to challenge the whole basis of our understanding of what constitutes knowledge in our society. This radical adjustment of outlook, from the usual negative atheism which is sterile and tells us nothing, to a positive atheism which purports to tell us everything, requires a new point of departure, and this is achieved by identifying the basis of all knowledge pertaining to human existence, and finding its true alternative.

The basis of this positive atheist philosophy concerns two alternative pivots of observation and interpretation, that are mutually exclusive. The accepted pivot of observation and interpretation says that the individual, as in the person, is the human animal. The alternative pivot of observation and interpretation giving rise to real atheism, says that the human animal is a superorganism, and the individual does not exist. By ‘not exist’ in this context, we mean the person, or individual, does not exist as an end in themselves.

To illustrate the power of this method we may say that this approach allows us to prove that God does not exist, by saying that by discovering the true nature of the human animal as that of a superorganism, we discover the true object or religious belief, and in doing so we transform the intuitive representation of the superorganism, that gives us our idea of ‘God’, into its real object, thus proving God does not exist by showing what God is in reality. The religious may refute this method by saying that God is the creator of the universe, but the response here would be to say this definition was a projection onto the initial intuitive insight, and not the real target of any scientific proof.
