Joar Nango is an artist and architect [1]based in Norway[2].

Artistic Practice

Nango works with site-specific installations [3] and self-made publications[4]. His work often relates to questions of Indigenous identity, and is based around the self-sufficiency and resourcefulness that is central to the Sámi way of living and creating on the land [5].

Projects have included the self-published zine series Sámi Huksendáidda: the Fanzine [6], the Sámi Shelters design project[7], and the Indigenuity Project [8], [9], [10]. Solo exhibitions by Nango have been presented at Gallery 44[11], (2016), Western Front Gallery, (2014)[12] , Knipsu (2012)[13], and SDG (2011). Nango also writes as part of his practice, including his 2009 essay, “The Sami Building Tradition: A Complex Picture” for the publication Northern Experiments: The Barents Urban Survey (Oslo: 0047,2009)
