Adopt offer

Hi Mikemoral. Thanks for offering mentorship! As I mentioned on my user page, I will mainly contribute articles in german and french, but also in english, if I think that it makes sense. I allready have a mentor in the german wikipedia, who gives me some general advices. But as my english language skills are quite poor, I also need help here in the english wikipedia - mainly for the editing.

Now... I allready wrote an article ten days ago West Point (1847), and I asked a few people if they would be willing to edit it. A user named Brad made a first "clean up", but I think this is not enough. I know that the article isnt perfect at all: it has not enough technical facts about the ship itself, and too many informations about its owners. But the problem is: it is very, very difficult to find informations about the ship West Point (and I made a research during more than a year). It is my goal, to find further informations about the construction, the history and the fate of that ship, and then to shorten certain parts (property situation) of the article. But meanwhile the article needs a comprehensive editing. Can you help me? --Rectilinium (talk) 07:25, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Rectilnium, I am going to give you a brief grammar lesson. For th future, proper nouns such as "Wikipedia" and "English," are capitalized, so the correct way to write "english wikipedia" is "English Wikipedia." And of course, I will help you. Hi Mikemoral :)... It is right that I do my best to make my way on Wikipedia. But still it can happen that I have further questions: Probably not once a day or once a week, but probably once in a month. And I also need further help for the editing of my english articles (which actually was my main reason for searching a mentor). Would you mind remaining my mentor for a certain time period? I really need the help of a native english speaker who is willing to edit my articles for grammar, style, cohesion, tone and spelling. With kind regards, --Rectilinium (talk) 17:14, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
I will. I also fixed a little spelling in your reply. It would also be best to ask me to proofread an article directly on my talk page. See you soon. --The New Mikemoral ♪♫ 22:44, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Hello and happy Easter too :) ! Thanks for the google-link... but actually it is not that simple. Googeling the ship was the first thing that I did more than a year ago, when I started my research (and I tried every imaginable wording). Then I bought 12 books about historical merchant ships and I wrote emails to 49 museums and persons that know a lot about shipping subjects - then a museum sent me a file, but some wiki-users told me, that this picture does'nt show the West Point, but the russian fullship Mir.
I think the only way to find a picture from the West Point, is if I stumble upon this ship in some old book or probably it would be possible to find it in Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion (The Boston weekly (1851-1859... modeled on the London Illustrated News debuts. Contributors included Sylvanus Cobb, T. S. Arthur, and Horatio Alger). But the complete editions of this paper cant be found in the internet.
Actually my great-great-grandfather died on the West Point in 1851... thats the reason why I started to make this research. I surfed the Internet for months, I was reading books and I talked to many people, but it was almost impossible to find any information about this vessel. Therefore I investigated the life of its owner (Robert Kermit and his Red Star Line) and its builder (the shipbuilder Jacob Aaron Westervelt / the shipyard Westervelt & MacKay). I thought, that if I publish an article about the ship and these companies, probably other persons can contribute an information I haven't found myself. But I know that there is little chance for this. I actually have some more indications about the West Point (that I found in the online archives of The New York Times), but they are disjointed and can not be easily integrated within the existing article.--Rectilinium'♥' 09:51, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Aha, I see. Well, that's a real shame. I guess it's one of thing that can't be help. Anyway, happy Easter again. --The New Mikemoral ♪♫ 17:42, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
