Rebecca "Becky" James (born 28 April 1998), better known by her online name Bambino Becky, is a Welsh YouTuber and Internet personality. She is typically recognized for her comedic social commentary and drinking videos.[1][2] As of May 2021, she has over 500,000 subscribers and 25 million total views.[3]

Early life[edit]

Becky got her nickname from her school friends because she was the youngest and smallest of the group. Bambino means "child" in Italian.[4]

Always an avid video-taker, Becky often filmed childhood videos on an old video camera. This experience would later help her transition to YouTube.[5]

Career[edit]

Becky began posting YouTube videos on the 18 August 2013 with her first video entitled "That First Blog" when she was 15 and still living at home in Wales. She was driven to start YouTube after watching Tessa Violet videos.[4]

On the 13 August 2017 at Summer in the City 2017, Becky took part in a Smaller YouTuber's Panel.[6]

She reached 10,000 subscribers in early 2018 but had difficulty managing a waitressing job and her YouTube career at the same time. A collaboration with Brian Davis on his True Geordie podcast and shoutouts from KSI convinced Becky to continue posting videos.[7][8] After the events she quickly reached 100,000 subscribers on 19 February 2019 and went on to collaborate with KSI multiple times.[4][9][10]

Bambino Becky and Chi with a C launched the channel and podcast "A Step Below Humble" on 29 April 2019. The name comes from an encounter they had with an overly confident YouTuber.[4]

Becky took part in Footasylum's Locked-in YouTube series where 10 YouTubers spend up to 2 weeks isolated in a house for the chance to win £10,000 for a charity of their choosing. It premiered on 4 November 2020.[11][2][12]

Personal Life[edit]

On 17 February 2018, Becky was featured in news coverage on a small earthquake near her house in South Wales. She was filming a YouTube video when it happened.[13][14]

Becky moved to London, England in the Spring 2019.[4]

During a 12-hour livestream in 3 May 2020, Becky raised £11,373 for the Neath Port Talbot Hospital hospital where her mum works. Other YouTubers including TBJZL and Talia Mar donated to the stream.[15][16]
