Intellectual development is defined as a child ability to think and understand his world. And it is about how individuals organize their minds, ideas and thoughts to make sense of the world. Intellectual development includes an account of the growth of these mental functions at different stages of development. Though,intellectual achievement includes scholastics learning it is not limited to it,but he learns a lot of things intellectually.


Intellectual Development During Infancy[edit]

Play is the main way childern learn and develop. Play way method skill and development abilites in infants become aware of their senses, bodies, other people and objects in their environment. The intellectual life of an infant turns to recoginizing and remembering certain objects and persons. From, birth to twelfth month, shows signs of progress in visual form. At two or three years,they are able to identify difference in position. After,particular stages of development infants develop their sensory organs to differentiate color, sound, weight, time and space. The infants also devlop their likes and dislike, interest and preferences. Infants are able to recoginizing and distinguish between a familiar and a strange objects by the age. The early creative work is the source of intellectual growth of the child. They have their own power of reasoning and judgement. F.D BROOKS, states many interesting cases of reasoning among the infants. In the intellectual process language also plays a vital role and they work on their mental ability,like experiencing, preceiving, reproducing, memorizing, association etc. Also, the intellectual development during infancy is based on approximate guess work. But when the child becomes old,he makes varied use of language, he uses words to name people , action and things and also ask the question for them. The growth of vocabulary during the first five years of the child is rapid and interesting. In each and every stage of his or her life the intellectual development is happening in different ways like development ofsensory organs, development of the field of attention,development of memory,development of creative work.
