Examination System[edit]

In 1999, the BCCM Examination system was established and accredited by the BC Ministry of Education[2]. The examination system allowed students in British Columbia to receive approved external credentials for Grade 11 and 12 Visual and Performing Arts upon completion of their Grade 7 and 8 piano and theory, respectively. In 2004, external credentials were added for Grade 10 Visual and Performing Arts upon completion of Grade 6 piano and theory.

Curriculum & Publishing[edit]

In 2005, BCCM published The Conservatory Classic Exploration Series for piano, which was designed as two books, Repertoire and Technique, Sight Reading & Ear Training. The curriculum was designed to be used in conjunction with the BCCM Examination system. The series included books for piano Grades 1-8.

The Conservatory Classic Exploration Series for piano was changed to the Horizons: The New Conservatory Series for Piano in 2012. The Horizons series added book sets for Grade 9 & 10 piano as well as introducing repertoire for the Diploma level in a two-volume set (Licentiate).
