The Rolls-Royce Ghost is a luxury saloon car manufactured by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Launched in 2009, the Ghost was the second new model series launched by Rolls-Royce after BMW assumed operational control of the marque in 2003.
It is Rolls-Royce's cheapest model, with a starting price in the Unites States of approximately $250,000. The Ghost is named in honour of the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost. It is sometimes referred to as the "baby Rolls", owing to its being Rolls-Royce's entry-level product offering.
Initially offered only as a standard wheelbase saloon, a long wheelbase version, dubbed the Ghost Extended Wheelbase, was launched in 2011. 2-door coupé and convertible versions of the Ghost, the Wraith and Dawn, were launched in 2013 and 2015 respectively.
Specifications
[edit]Platform
[edit]The Ghost shares its platform with the F01 BMW 7 Series.
Suspension and steering
[edit]The Ghost is fitted with self-levelling air springs and electronically controlled dampers front and rear. It uses a double wishbone front axle and a 5-link rear axle. It is also equipped with active anti-roll bars.
Powertrain
[edit]All versions of the Ghost use a twin-turbocharged 6.6-litre V12 engine. This is a variant of BMW's N74.
ZF's 8HP 8-speed automatic transmission is the sole gearbox option. On Series II models this is linked to a GPS receiver which analyses the car's location and speed to optimise shift timing.
