Serra do Tinguá (maximum elevation of 1600 meters[1]) is a mountain located in the Tinguá Biological Reserve, and is part of the Serra do Mar range in the Atlantic forest. It is the source of the Iguaçu and Tinguá rivers. In 1993 the area was classified as a World Heritage Site in the category of Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations, through UNESCO.[2]

Flora[edit]

One of the few natural habitats of species of Schlumbergera, which were developed into the colourful "Thanksgiving Cactus" and "Christmas Cactus", widely grown as house plants.[3]

Temperature[edit]

Temperatures in the mountains can fall as low as 4 °C (39 °F), and the average temperature at 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) is 17 °C (63 °F). Humidity is between 80 and 90% on average, but it can reach 99% at higher altitudes.
