DEONTOLOGY
Deontology is defined as an ethical theory that the morality of an action should be based on whether that action itself is right or wrong under a series of rules, rather than based on the consequences of the action.
An example of deontology is the belief that killing someone is wrong, even if it was in self-defense
These is based on two theories : a. Agent centered deontology theory b. Patient centered deontology theory Advantages: Fits with Human instinct one of the best qualities of deontology is that it fits with the natural information of good and bad that we as a whole have. Keeps away from the issue of consequentialism-deontologists are not impeded by attempting to foresee the results of their activities. It is a humanitarian principle in which all the men are considered to be of equal value and worthy of protection It provides objective guidelines for making moral decisions, without the need for lengthy calculation of possible outcome Disadvantages: With in the set of morally responsible choices it does not provide the focused goals of Consequentialism It cannot deal well with the conflicting duties or obligations
Deontology VS utilitarianism
These two major ethics are to specify or justify moral rules and principal. Utilitarianism is also known as consequentialism. Basically Utilitarianism is an approach to morality implies that no moral act or rule is characteristically right or wrong. In sum, according to utilitarianism, morality is a matter of the non-moral good produced that results from moral actions and rules. One main problem is that utilitarianism, if adopted, justifies as morally appropriate things that are clearly immoral. For this and other reasons, we have advocated a second type of moral theory, deontology ethical theory. The word “deontological” comes from the Greek word deonwhich means “binding duty.” Deontological ethics is in keeping with Scripture, natural moral law, and intuitions from common sense
