Atletic Club Piroș Security Lioness Arad, commonly known as Piroș Security Arad, Piroș Arad or simply Piroș, is a Romanian women's football club based in Arad, Arad County, Romania.[2] The team currently plays in the Liga I, first tier of the Romanian women's football system, after promoting at the end of the 2018–19 season.[1]
History[edit]
The team was created in 2016 by Arad businessman Pavel Piroș, owner of the Piroș Security firm and former president of Șoimii Pâncota. Since 2013, when the female section of UTA Arad withdrew from the championship, Arad did not have a women's football team. Gigi Cameniță, the former coach of UTA, returned to women's football coaching. Along with him, veteran players Floarea Liheț, Meszaros returned to playing football in red-white in Arad. A tight-knit team was formed, which managed to win first place in the newly created third tier of Romanian women's football, and to promote in the second league.
In its second season, Piroș set again promotion as the new objective. With four new additions to the team (Magocs, Bajko, Chiș, Vanu) the team managed to fight its way to the top of the league. However, only 4th place was achieved, as the Arad team had powerful competitors. Still, it managed to reach the semifinals of the Romanian Women's Cup. Thus, Piroș became the only second league team that ever managed such a performance (except the second squad of champions Olimpia Cluj, back when second teams were still allowed in the competition).
In its third season, promotion was again the main objective. During winter break, Piroș brought in a group of experienced players from Timiș County (Sîrbovan, Bărbosu, Vuicin, Usain) and managed to win the second series of Liga II and promote in front of Luceafărul Filiași.
The fourth season marked the debut on the first stage of Romanian women's football, Liga I. Surprisingly, Piroș managed to win 7 out of 11 league games in the first half of the season, bringing the team on an unexpected 5th place. In spring, the team also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Romanian Women's Cup, but soon the season was suspended due to the 2019-20 Coronavirus Pandemic.
