Intro[edit]

Borrowing the name from graffiti in Cabbagetown_(Atlanta), Faster Mustache was founded circa 2004 by a group of friends in Atlanta. Faster Mustache is an independent organization made up of a diverse group of Atlanta residents with one thing in common: riding bicycles. Fixed or free, geared or single, cruiser, chopper, racer, clunker, we ride 'em. Our interests are as diverse as our riders but we are all dedicated to promoting safer riding conditions in Atlanta and being ambassadors for Atlanta's broad bicycle community. Faster Mustache events cover areas of interests including psychogeography, political/social activism, design, urban transit, urban planning and construction, food and drink, music and movies, art and culture, mountain biking, bacon and quesadillas.

Former Band[edit]

The graffiti that inspired the bike crew's name is allegedly connected to a former band called Faster Mustache that dates back to the spring of 2001. Members Chris Van Heldt and Andrew "Mango" Persichettie formed an experimental doom rock duo from Atlanta. The band's rare, but dazzling live performances expressed a unique psychodelic-sad-pop sensibility with heavy-driving repetition and layered visual projections.

FM disbanded in 2002 after a studio fire that took the life of producer Akuma Mitsu and destroyed all evidence of an ongoing recording project. The band's guitarist, Van Heldt, left the city in 2004 amongst a cloud of accusations involving human trafficking and the brutal stabbing of a cyclist.
