JAUNDICE:

Jaundice has been recognized for thousands of years, with references dating back to ancient civilizations such as Egyptians, Greeks,and Chinese.The term “jaundice” originates from the French word “jaune”, by meaning yellow,and it refers to yellowing of skin and eyes due to increased level of bilirubin in blood.

IN ancient times jaundice was often associated with various superstition and beliefs including punishment by the god.For instance, Hippocrates described jaundice as a disorder of liver,recognizing it's association with liver disease.

Today, jaundice is recognized as a symptom of various underlying medicine condition, including liver diseases such as hepatitis,cirrhosis,and bile duct obstruction.

TYPE OF JAUNDICE

1.Pre-hepatic jaundice: also known as hemolytic jaundice.this type occurs when there is an increased breakdown of red blood cells, leading to elevated levels of bilirubin in the bloodstream.

2.Hepatic jaundice: this type of jaundice arises from dysfunction or damage to liver, which impairs it's ability to process bilirubin effectively.

3.Post-hepatic jaundice:Also known as obstuctive jaundice, post-hepatic jaundice occurs when there is a blockage in the bile ducts, preventing bilirubin from excreted into the intestines.

3.bile duct obstruction

4.Hemolytic disorders

5.liver cancer
