From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Token sucking was a method of stealing subway tokens by intentionally disabling the token slot on a turnstile and removing abandoned tokens using oral vacuum. This was a common crime in the New York City subway system until tokens were phased out in 2003, due to introduction of MetroCard.

Tokens

[edit]

Between 1953 and 2003, the New York City transit system (both subway and busses) used tokens of various designs. Each token represented a single fare, varying from $0.15 to $1.50 over the years.[1]
