One Helluva Ride is a one-day bicycle touring event that has been held in Southeast Michigan for 46 years. It leaves from Chelsea Michigan and includes rides of various lengths up to 100 miles. In recent years it has included gravel rides as well as road rides. The ride starts out on the Chelsea Fairgrounds, and passes through scenic rural areas of Washtenaw County, on generally quiet country roads. The ride includes a breakfast, rest stops with meals, and a lunch served at the starting point, with live music also. Custom-printed jerseys with unique artwork that memorialize the ride are available. The name of the ride comes from the fact that some of the rides go through the hamlet of Hell, Michigan, which contains a few restaurants and souvenir stores (though the ride does not make a stop there). Originally, all the rides went through hell.
The ride is run by the Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society (AABTS), a xx-year old organization the has several hundred active members. The AABTS organizes regular rides from Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Dexter, ????, that have many participants. A popular ride is the Saturday Morning ride that starts in Ann Arbor and goes 16 miles to Chelsea, Michigan, where most members stop off at Zou Zou's Cafe for coffee and conversation. All the major problems in the world are discussed there.
