UAE Trip

[edit]

My first trip abroad came in September 2005 when I visited the Arab Emirates. Here are some of the images that keep those fun-filled memories still fresh.

Abu Dhabi

[edit]

Abu Dhabi (Arabic: أبو ظبي ʼAbū Ẓaby) is the largest of the seven emirates that comprise the United Arab Emirates and was also the largest of the former Trucial States. Abu Dhabi is also a city of the same name within the Emirate that is the capital of the country, in north central UAE.

The colorful steam fountain at Marina Mall, Abu Dhabi. As the name "Marina" suggests, the theme of the wall is water. The entire Mall is a pleasant aqua-blue with images of sub-marine plant and animal life all over the place.
The business district comes into view as we enter Dubai after an hour's drive from Abu Dhabi. Dubai is the financial capital of the UAE.

Dubai

[edit]

Dubai (in Arabic: دبيّ, IPA: [ðʊ'bɪ] is the second largest emirate in the federation. The city of Dubai, is the emirate's main city and the financial capital of the UAE.

The Toyata Landcruisers parked on the dunes during the Desert Safari (Dubai). The desert safari consists of driving wildly on the sand-dunes, and then eating, drinking and dancing in traditional Arabic camp in the middle of the desert. A traditional belly dance at the end adds even more color.
The famous Dubai Creek in the backgroud and the Etisalat building (left) on the other shore.

Al Ain

[edit]

Al Ain (Arabic: العين), literally "the eye" in Arabic (in this case a reference to water sources), is a city located in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Al Ain has numerous fresh water springs and is easily the greenest city in the UAE. It is often called the 'Garden City of the Persian Gulf' given the many parks and tree-lined avenues in the city.
