The Importance of Music to Girls is a memoir , by Lavinia Greenlaw. It was first published by Faber and Faber in 2007.

Polly Sansom in the guardian - 'This would make a wonderful book for serialising on the radio, where the music could be allowed to drift in and out of the narrative. However, this is not particularly for music buffs - despite a nerdy Hornby-esque conversation between Greenlaw and a record-collecting friend that lulls her colicky newborn to sleep - as the music is often an excuse to let the mind wander and the reminiscences flow.' - (It was serialized, on radio Four , narrated by Emma Kennedy.)
