Marian Rivera Gracia (born August 12, 1984) is a Filipino actress. Known for her dramatic roles and portrayals of heroines in film and television, she has been cited as one of the highest-paid actresses in the Philippines. Her accolades include a FAMAS Award, five Star Awards, seven Box Office Entertainment Awards, and was named by Forbes as one of the most influential figure in Asia.

Rivera made her acting debut in the television series Kung Mamahalin Mo Lang Ako. She made her breakthrough in a lead role in MariMar (2007–2008), which marked the first of her successful collaborations with Dingdong Dantes, whom she married in 2014.

Early life and background

Marian Rivera Gracia was born on August 12, 1984 in Madrid, Spain. Her mother, Amalia Mallari Rivera, who is a Filipino, was an overseas worker in Spain, while her father, Francisco Alonzo Javier Gracia, who is a Spanish, worked in a restaurant. Rivera was raised by her grandmother in Bacoor, Cavite. She was educated at De La Salle University – Dasmariñas, where she majored in psychology. During her college years, she had a part-time job at ABS-CBN Corporation.

Career

2007–2013: Rise to prominence

Rivera's breakthrough came in 2007 where she co-starred alongside Dingdong Dantes in a lead role in Marimar, based on the Mexican television series of the same name. Angel Locsin was first considered for the role, but Locsin rejected, leading to several auditions by multiple actresses. Rivera's audition was successful, and was subsequently cast in the title role opposite Dingdong Dantes. The show ran from August 13, 2007 to March 14, 2008.
