Following a long discussion in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style talk page, concluded with a decision at WP:BIRDCON, it became standard style on Wikipedia to use lower case for birds' and other species' common names. I and other editors have been working to help make those common names consistent. Part of that has been finding and fixing links such as Golden Eagle which are generally errors. Where capitalization is appropriate or where there is already a piped link, and there are more than a few on the page, I edit the links so they don't appear on lists of apparent errors. That means I sometimes make edits which don't change the appearance of the page. That may look like a violation of WP:AWB#Rules of use, and general good editing practice, but because it helps identify real errors, the edits are not "insignificant or inconsequential". This is similar to deliberately linking to a disambiguation page by linking through Greg Parke (disambiguation) to indicate that the link is not intended to go to a specific Greg Parke.
