François-Alphonse Forel was a Swiss physician and scientist. He was born in Morges, Switzerland on February 2, 1841.

Childhood and Family[edit]

His father was a strong influence in his life. His father was both a historian and a jurist.

Education[edit]

Eventually, he left his home in Morges for school in Geneva, then Montpellier and Paris, and ultimately in Germany at the University of Würzburg. He obtained a doctorate degree in Medicine and Obstetrics in the year 1865.

Work and Professional Life[edit]

He became a professor at the University of Lausanne (then known as the Academy of Lausanne) aged 26, near his home at Lake Geneva. He taught histology, anatomy, and physiology (Wiki says medicine?). Forel later decided to turn to study the Lake Geneva back in Switzerland. His study encompassed physics, chemistry, biology, human history, and economics.
