Leland Gaunt is a fictional character created by Stephen King and the main antagonist of his 1991 novel, Needful Things. Gaunt is presented as a shopkeeper who moves into the town of Castle Rock, Maine and sells valuable items for cheap prices in exchange for the customers pulling pranks on other residents. Gaunt is later revealed to have been a demon, and possibly even The Devil himself. Gaunt was portrayed by Max von Sydow in the 1993 film adaptation.
