Their is no information on the Wikipedia page about Laozi that talks about his influence on western society. So I will be making a new section about Laozi to discuss his teachings in the west.

I do not have an original paragraph because a paragraph about Laozi's influences on western culture does not exist.

Much of the Laozi's influence on western culture did not occur during his life, but his teachings would later be introduced in the 19th century. Laos's influences of Tao Te Ching in the western world is more of a philosophical image to life rather then the religious conception. Men like James Legge were one of the first men to introduce taoism to the west in the late 1800s during the Victorian Era by assisting with the works of Max Muller's Sacred Books of the East as a linguist for Chinese. Western Taoism is mostly confined to Tao Te Ching, and generally reject Taoist religious traditions of emphasizing revelation, tradition, lineage, place, and material culture, including the polytheistic belief in gods.[1]

I choose to put a link to Tao Te Ching because it is the closest and only Wikipedia article that supports itself as a separate resource for understanding Laozi's teachings that are present in the Western world.
