Oklahoma D-Day is a week long scenario paintball event that is held annually. The scenario is a recreation of D-Day which is the Normandy Invasion of Operation Overlord during World War II. The game takes place in Wyandotte, Oklahoma at the Bunker Extreme and draws players from all around the world. As of 2006, the player who was recognized as traveling the farthest came from Bosnia.

Participation[edit]

The event takes place during the week of June 6 so that it may honor the memory of those that served during the actual D-Day, and boasts 4000+ active participants, and an estimated 10 thousand non-playing participants. (Vendors, family, staff and the onlookers). 2 sides play with tanks,"Airplanes", bazookas and standard [paintball markers]. The sides are the Allies and the Germans.

I am sorry to be the one to state this fact, but Oklahoma D-Day will not be held the week of June 6 this year. It will be held June 9-15. Obviously the writer did not know that during 2008 it would not be held on the week of June 6. Because I am putting an updated peace of information on this page does not, by any means, state that the writer didn’t know about D-Day, everything I have read, other than this, is correct. Historical Accuracy[edit]

The game continues to evolve and the overall realism is improved every year. The most recent changes have been a massive terraforming project to create the beach landing of Utah beach. The game has mechanisms that are installed to facilitate the flow of the game, the mechanisms take away some of the realism but are generally approved. For example, players (even snipers) must have a brightly colored hopper cover designating their side. GPS and 2-way Radios are permitted despite their non-existence in the real invasion.

French Resistance[edit]

This unit was instituted at Oklahoma DDay by Jim "Pierre Gasconde" Grunst of in an unofficial capacity just before game day in 1999.

This unit represents the oppressed French under German occupation, who banded together to help the allies any way they could.

The purpose of forming the group:

To introduce historical reinacting on a large scale at Oklahoma DDay, a facet of the sport and this game that has become a success. Many players now put together period-looking uniforms and weapons, making allowances and modifications for the sport of paintball.

To make a challenge for players who wanted something more in their game than mindlessly emptying hopper after hopper of paint down on opponents landing on the beaches.

The Resistance is not a straight assult force. Instituding blind rushes and ambush cause chaos in the German backfield because they the Resistance doesn't have to fight through enemy lines, rather they start in the backfield.

The German side is represented in the spirit of the German soldier who fought for the love of his country like the allies. They are remembered with respect at Oklahoma D-Day, not for their politcal leaders' idologies, but for the way all vetrans should be; with respect.

352nd Infantry Division[edit]

Oppose the landings of the U.S. 1st Infantry Division at Omaha Beach. From the most spectacular fortifications on the D-Day Field. The first and most critical line of defense against the Allies' attempt to penetrate the lines at Omaha Beach. Repel the waves of Allied Invaders that will storm ashore at Omaha.

914th Infantry Regiment[edit]

Guardians of the southern gate of the Valley, the 914th defends the most densely constructed stretch of urban terrain on the D-Day Field. From the church steeple in Vierville, the players of the 914th can look out over the 1st Infantry Divison landings at Omaha and guard their end of the Valley against an Allied breakout from the beach.

916th Infantry Regiment[edit]

This unit is one of the critical anchoring forces that guard "field center" against the Allied advance, defending the heartland of the German Forces and High Command.

726th Infantry Regiment[edit]

This unit is literally the center of the action. The guardians of the German Headquarters, the 726th stands astride the great crossroads of the playing field, where all roads and routes meet. The 726th is assigned the daunting task of defending the headquarters of the German High Command from the relentless Allied drive.

709th Infantry Division[edit]

This unit will face & defend the Allied assault from the hardened fortifications overlooking Utah Beach. This area is one of the most vital objective areas on the field (Utah beach & Causeway 2).

716th Infantry Division[edit]

Commander: General Matt "Mustangman" Morin,

This unit defends the sweeping and rugged southern end of the field ( Sword beach, Caen) against the Allied invasion. You are supported by the 21st Panzer, and you face off directly against everything the British and Canadian units have to throw at you - Infantry, Paratroopers, and Armor.

91st Luftlande Division[edit]

1058th Marine-Einsatzkommando (Frogmen)[edit]

A German special operations unit, MEK specializes in CQB and direct assault, applying those skills to capture Allied assets, recapture lost German assets, break Allied lines, and disrupt Allied offensives. Aggression, speed, and violence are the hallmarks of an MEK action, and Marines take great pride in being the most aggressive unit on the field.

6th Fallschirmjaeger Regiment (Paratrooper)[edit]

A highly mobile, elite, reactionary assault force, deployed at the discretion of the German High Command to counter the movements of the Allies on the field.

21st Panzer (tank) Division[edit]

The 21st Panzer is an elite corps of dedicated tankers that have a long standing tradition of ferocious play at Oklahoma D-Day. The tanks of the 21st Panzer roam the field wide and far, and will face off directly against the opposing armor of both the U.S. and British tank forces.

Brandenburg Kommandos[edit]

The primary mission of the Kommandos is to conduct Special Operations Assignments for the German High Command. They are assigned special missions, in direct competition against their Allied special forces counterparts. Speed, stealth, and ferocity are their tools.

352nd Panzerjaeger (tank hunter) Battalion[edit]

This unit is first and foremost in the business of hunting tanks at Oklahoma D-Day. This is a heavy weapons unit, composed of replica panzershreks, replica anti-tank artillery, and it's own supporting infantry forces.

Geisterjagers[edit]

AKA "ghost hunters")

A highly elite, Sniper Unit to which personnel with exceptional marksmarnship and fieldcrafts are assigned, to be deployed at the discretion of the German High Command to counter the movements of the Allies on the field. The Geisterjagers are on prowl, hunting the Allied Command from one shadowy end of the field to the other. Along they way, they will fight to harrass, delay, and impede the Allies as they attempt to make their advance. As a disciplined wild card of the German forces, the Geisterjagers are a unique force of dedicated, talented, and highly experienced D-Day veterans.

Allied Sniper Division[edit]

The Allied Sniper Division is responsible for scouting and intelligence collecting in the field's rural areas, as well as conducting ambushes and participating in covert operations during Saturday's big game. Operating much like LRRP teams, Shadow Ops avoid contact when possible. But, if they are found, the scouts use speed, stealth, and fire superiority to make the German unit wish they hadn't discovered them.

Shadow Ops are unique in the DDay game in that they are the only unit you can not sign up for. Allied Snipers are hand-picked volunteers from several units on the Allied side. The commanding officer, JC, selects the best applicants to fill the ranks of the small recon teams. Applicants are selected in person for their team-oriented attitude, physical condition, and (of course) talent for the sniper role in paintball.

Game Play[edit]

The event is one week long, with smaller games and activities all week long. Starting on Monday, there is at least one mini-scenario each day, and one night game on Thursday of the event week. On Friday, there is a parade of the units in full gear, as well as a costume contest for the best historical costume.

The main game is on Saturday, starting about 9:00am. The Allied units launch their assaults on three beaches: Sword, Utah and Omaha, representing the three main beaches used on June 6, 1944. Airborne troops are dropped randomly throughout the wooded areas of the playing field, to simulate the mis-drops made so infamous during the invasion.

The game then continues on for eight (8) hours, non-stop. When hit, each player is required to report to the nearest dead zone (DZ) and wait. Every thirty minutes, any players in the DZ are released to re-join the game. Release times are usually staggered between Allies and Axis. Allied players are released on the top and bottom of the hour, while Axis players are typically released on the 15th and 45th minutes of the hour.

Each territory and objective carries a point value, which is added to each side's total throughout the day. Since each territory may be worth a different amount of points at different times of the day, both sides must plan strategically on how to best utilize the time to maximize the point gain.
