Norman B Willis is an apostle with an Israelite sect of the Nazarenes affiliated with the original apostolic faith in the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus).[1]

Biography[edit]

Willis reports converting to a Christian form of Judaism in 1999. Later he moved to South America where he dedicated his life to studying the Bible and in 2002 founded the Nazarene Israel website to re-establish the Hebrew Roots of the faith in the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus).[2]

Early life[edit]

Norman Willis was born in the Seattle, USA, area. He was raised a devout Christian in the Methodist Church. However, at age 11 he fell away from the church after he was taught Evolution Theory in school. After falling away from the church, he became a patriot. He joined the US Army ROTC, and received his Special Forces qualification, and served overseas in the 1-503rd Airborne Infantry (Light) in the Republic of Panama.

Expanded description[edit]

While serving overseas in the Republic of Panama, Norman Willis saw the US Government doing things that seemed to him to be not only illegal, but which were also inconsistent with his code of ethics. He ceased to be a patriot and instead dedicated himself to seeking spiritual truth. In those early years he studied Taoism, Buddhism, Zen, and the eastern healing arts. In 1998 he was offered ordination as an enlightened Zen Buddhist master of the Sixth Patriarch Korean tradition but turned it down because he felt something essential was lacking.

In 1999, Norman Willis felt a clear call to serve the God of the Hebrew Bible. He also dedicated the rest of his life to studying the Bible in-depth, and doing whatever it said. His first question was to prove to himself whether or not the prophesied Messiah of Israel had already come, from the Old Testament alone. After he was able to do that, his next question became, what faith did the prophesied Messiah teach? After intensive study he concluded that the Messiah taught a Christian form of Judaism or Israelite worship (as distinct from mainstream Christianity, which teaches a departure from Judaism).

With the rise of the Internet, Norman Willis became involved in several forums dedicated to re-establishing the Hebrew Roots of the faith in the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus). He also became heavily involved in the Two House and Ephraimite movements, and ultimately had to establish a website to keep track of his growing number of teachings. In 2002 he founded Nazarene Israel, originally the Israelite sect of the Nazarenes, which name comes from Acts 24:5 and Acts 28:22, which indicate that the first century faith was a sect of Judaism, or Israelite worship.

While Nazarene Israel originally sprang from the Hebrew Roots, Two House, and Ephraimite movements, it has since become its own distinct movement.

Norman Willis is biblically celibate, having taken a celibate vow, in keeping with Matthew 19:10-12.
