BTTF3[edit]

Development[edit]

Michael J. Fox says that he has many memories about the years he spent shooting the two Back to the Future sequels. He mentions the birth of his son and his father's death that happened in the years of the movies' creation. [1]

Robert Zemeckis explains that it was logical to let the action of the third part take place in the year 1885, because it is exactly one century before 1985, the time in which the first and second movie are set. He describes this time as the time of the pre-industrial revolution. Furthermore he describes the character of Marty McFly the "master of the ceremony" throughout the Back to the Future trilogy. In the first movie it was Crispin Glover's character George McFly and in the third movie it was Christpher LLoyd's character Doc Emmet Brown who had to go through dramatic changes that constitueted the plot of each of the movies.

Production[edit]

The shooting of both Back to the Future 2 and Back to the Future 3 took place in a row for a period of 11 months. The shooting of the western scenes took place in Northern California. Thus the final work on editing of the already shot material for Back to the Future 2 overlapped with the shooting of Back to the Future 3. Bob Gale says that in the end they had to devide their forces, he had to leave set of Back to the Future 3 during the shooting of the train scenes in order to go to Los Angeles and supervise the final cut of Back to the Future 2. [2]

In the end of the shooting the director Robert Zemeckis had to do the shooting of Back to the Future 3 during the day and afterwards go by plane from Northern California to Los Angeles in order to participate in the editing of Back to the Future 2 in the night. He had to work in this way for a couple of weeks on a daily basis.

Robert Zemeckis confirms that it was difficult to shoot Back to the Future 3 and editing Back to the Future 2 at the same time. He regrets that he might not have given Back to the Future 3 his full attention.[3]
