Achint Thakkar[edit]

Achint Thakkar is a composer from Mumbai, India. His music could be described as a hybrid of sorts, heavily influenced by the culture of the Indian subcontinent and western aesthetics of composition and production.

Career[edit]

In 2020, Achint composed music for the show ‘Scam 1992 - The Harshad Mehta Story’ which garnered much critical acclaim for depicting the the Indian stock market scam that took place in Bombay during the early 90’s. The Title Track of the show has since gone viral nationally and has seeped it’s way into modern Indian pop culture along with the show.[1]

He released his debut album, ‘Shalimar’ which was nominated for Best Non Film Debut at the Global Indian Music Academy (GIMA) awards in 2016.

Achint subsequently collaborated with the Khan Brothers from Rajasthan to create Achint & The Khan Brothers, a fusion album combining Rajasthani folk tunes with Achint’s enchanting and ethereal production and composition. Songs from the album have been used in the Netflix show ‘The Big Day’ as well as Bejoy Nambiar’s film ’Taish’.[2]

As a media composer, Achint has worked with brands like Disney, Puma, MRF, Global Desi, Bender’s Pride, Budweiser, Bobbi Brown, The Gates Foundation, Philips and many others. Having worked with advertising agencies like DDB Mudra & Lowe Lintas.

Achint has carved a niche for himself in the ad world for his unique sound and refreshing sensibilities. Achint has also worked on shows the Amazon Prime’s ‘Four More Shots Please’ and the Netflix film ‘Maska’ as additional composer, collaborating with veteran music composer Mikey McCleary.

He also composed the music for Rocket Boys (Season 1 & 2) which is an Indian Hindi-language biographical series on SonyLIV. [3] The Series is based on the lives of Homi J. Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai. It is directed by Abhay Pannu and produced by Roy Kapur Films and Emmay Entertainment.

In 2022 he composed the soundtrack and the score of Monica, O My Darling which is a neo-noir dark comedy crime thriller film directed by Vasan Bala.[4] The film stars Rajkummar Rao, Huma Qureshi and Radhika Apte. [5] The album was critically acclaimed, with praise towards his composition, the vintage musical landscape, as well as the choice of singers. The album was considered as "one of the best Bollywood soundtracks" in the recent times.[6]

He later collaborated with Hansal Mehta for his next show Scoop is a 2023. Scoop Netflix original crime drama series created by Hansal Mehta and Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul.[7]

Achint also composed and produced 'Khalasi' [8] which was a debut season hit from Coke Studio Bharat and gained significant traction on their YouTube channels [9]. The lyrics of this song were written by Saumya Joshi and it also features a famous playback singer from Gujarat, Aditya Gadhvi.
