The first Kayda which we will be learning is the first Kayda that is taught to a student in his /her Tabla class when he/she is playing for the 1st time itself. This Kayda is the Ghe Ghe Te Ta Ghe Ghe Na Na Kayda. It goes like this (you can choose the language in which you want the Kayda written) :

Things to ponder[edit]

The Bols that are to be practiced in this Kayda are,

  • Ghe and Ge (घे and गे): (on the bayan) holding wrist down and arching the fingers over the syahi; the middle and ring-fingers then strike the maidan (resonant) for Ghe and Ge respectively.
  • Te Ta (तीट): (on the dayan) striking the center of the syahi with the middle finger first and then the index finger.
  • Na (ना): (on the dayan) striking the edge of the syahi with the last two fingers of the right hand.
  • Ka or kath or Ki or Ke (क or कत् or कि or के): (on bayan) striking with the flat palm and fingers (non resonant).

These Bols are then repeated as per the Bols of the Kayda.
