The IRIS-T SLM (IRIS-T Surface Launched Medium Range) is an air defense system developed by the German firm Diehl Defence based around the IRIS-T missile. According to the manufacturers, the IRIST-T SLM provides 360-degree protection from hostile fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, drones, cruise missiles and SRBMs. Development is expected to be finished by 2014.

Technical Specifications

[edit]

The IRIS-T SLM is designed as a ground-based tactical air defence system which can be produced independently of any launch vehicle. All components are based around standard 20ft ISO Containers and can therefore be deployed using various readily-available vehicles, including, for example, commercial large goods vehicles equipped to carry containers. This configuration also serves to simplify long-distance transport, with the SLM system fitting easily within the loading gauge of most railways and inside common NATO transport aircraft including the Airbus A400M Atlas and Lockheed C-130 Hercules.[1]

Radar

[edit]

The primary sensor of the IRIS-T SLM is the CEAFAR 3-dimensional multifunctional AESA radar.[3]
